I would at LEAST like to go back about 2 decades and warn my parents about the sneaky shit my ex-sisters were gonna pull on them after they died so they can stop it before it happens!! I honestly cannot say. The past would be safest as you could study the area and language. I don't know what they would think about a time machine. You don't when the nukes or asteroids may hit. So I guess about 2050 years ago.
