I called a well known band (W. F.) to order some more checks. Before the banker would order them, she asked me at least 10 questions to identify me first. I couldn't believe it.
When was the last deposit? How much was the deposit? What was the number of the last check you wrote? What was the amount? And what was the amount on the check before that one? What is your birth date? What are the last four numbers of your social security number? What high school did you attend and where was it?
I was waiting for her to ask me what I had for dinner last night.
Jeez!
I'll tell you something. If I didn't use one of those old fashioned check book register's and kept immaculate records and answered everyone of her questions right I probably wouldn't have received my new check order.

A few days later I received the checks. I'm kinda glad they do the interrogation because anyone can order checks and say they are you.

Boy, am I glad I am a student and that I don't have a check book nor a credit card. I do have a bank account and when I need cash, I simply go in person and show my ID to the teller together with my bank card. That takes care of business.

But I do understand that banks need to check on the identity of their customers that call in to have some type of transaction performed. In today's virtual world where transactions are performed electronically, with 2 way secure ID and other means to identify yourself electronically, banks are just ensuring that they will not be liable for the loss of one single cent. There is however, a limit to what is acceptable and not. I can just imagine an elderly person that has dementia or that does not have the records in pristine order as you suggest being denied a withdrawal or even have his/her account blocked and if things are going bonkers, to have the police at your front door in a blink of an eye.

I thank to AI for making this even worse and for making each and everyone of us with a bank account a suspect first before being a customer.

All I do is show my bank debit card and driver's license and that is usually enough.

It looks that if you want to have checks issued, certain banks are very thorough. On one hand it is nice but there is definitely a limit to how intrusive they may be.

You could also just order them from one of these online companies that print checks. That would save a lot of trouble and may be cheaper than getting them from the bank.

I had several credit cards during my lifetime.
But the last one I had, I had for twenty years with no blemishes.
I never had any late payments, I was using my credit card but when COVID hit, I didn't go anywhere or do any unnecessary shopping so my balance went to zero and they cancelled my credit card that had perfect credit for 20 years!
I kinda had a sneaking suspicion in my gut that something was coming down the puke and I was right.

The banks knew ahead of us that we were going to have a big jump in inflammation and people were going to use their credit cards to buy food with and max them out, then not be able to pay the bill.
My Spidey senses are usually right and that's exactly what happened.
I was mad about it because I had only 10-12% interest on it the entire 20 years!
I couldn't find another deal like that anymore.

The sad thing about banks and other credit institutions is that they know more about you that you know about your own self.

It is sad to think that banks have no interest in you being a good customer because they cannot profit from you as much as if you have a not so perfect credit record. They will increase the interest rate for late payment and will become much more snoopy and intrusive.

Sometimes I do compare a lot of those companies to the pharmaceutical companies. None want you to be cured with their medication because a cured patient is a lost patient. They want you to be stable so that they can sell you more medication but under no circumstances do they want to cure you.

What is your first pet is a very common question thst you choose when you sign up. I prefer those kinds of personal questions that someone cannot find by Internet searches.

Another common question that I get asked online when I'm at a secure site gives me four cities and asks me to identify which one I've lived at.

Oh yeah - that was another question. She named 4 street names and I had to choose which one was the last street I lived on before the one I live on now

But this wasn't a website Tom. It was a real live person from the bank asking me the questions, and so many.

Yes, I am getting sick and tired of internet fraud. I try and keep up with it and it is pretty scary. I do not use an ATM card or pay bills on line. I do not have a transponder in my truck and I was one of the last people where I used to work to do direct deposit.

Exactly! I think I mentioned that I was glad the 🏦 bank did that.
I have to wonder though, hardly anyone anymore uses the old fashioned check registers any more. How could they answer all of those questions without keeping perfect records in a checkbook register!

I had to order some of the old fashioned check registers from a catalog. 6 costs me $21.00.
The back only provides these little blank inside register's. I guess just to keep track of your withdrawal from the ATM I guess🤷🏼‍♀️
