If it’s an actual debate, it can be a very enjoyable competition. Working within the scope of rules of each person getting the same time to make their case, both parties given time to research the subjects they debate and find evidence to prove their claims, it’s an excellent way to prime one up for finding ways to not only defend their topics but prove them correct.



But that’s not what happens online. What happens is just arguing, spewing whatever facts people like at one another and trying to debase these political concepts that have joined a person’s identity and cause them to take these refutes of their beliefs as personal offenses. That’s not a debate.

Only if my partner is capable of logic lol (surprisingly few people are), in which case he/she usually appreciates the exchange as much as I do

Otherwise, it's a waste of time—better to simply empathize with and appreciate their views rather than challenge them

Not really. I prefer to listen to opposing viewpoints and decide which I aqm closer to.

I do enjoy it but only to share ideas. Having to defend a standpoint I believe in I dislike doing so I dont debate for sport.
