Why do people shower so damn often?

Got me! I used to live with a girl that got 3 showers a day!
She'd wake up in the morning, get a shower, go to work where she was mostly sit at the front counter and wait on customers in an antique store.
Around 4:30, she'd walk 2 blocks back to her apt., get another shower and then go out to a party somewhere.
Around 3 a. m., she'd come home and get in the shower and then go to bed.
The next morning, she got up and got another shower and repeated everything all over again.
I questioned her about it. She kinda laughed and said, "There's nothing wrong with being clean." No, there isn't but, being antiseptic is another thing!
In an episode of "Danger Man", Drake meets some guy in Italy, I think, all dressed up in a suit & tie. They talk for about 2:00 and the guy says, "Excuse me, I have to get a shower. I take 5 or 6 of them a day. It's a habit."
It takes me over an hour to go through the entire shower process!! If I got 5 or 6 of them a day, I'd never get ANYTHING done!! I'd spend 7.5 hours a day with the shower process!! Add to that, eating and sleeping, that's at least 20 hours a day! My water bills would be astronomical!!

Society happens. If I did not live with my parents and if I did not have to go to the office for my job, I totally wouldn't. I'd just brush my teeth to have them stay in good shape, and when absolutely necessary (a. k. a. when even I am no longer comfortable with how it feels to touch it), I'd also wash my hair. Other than that, I would have no reason at all to shower. However, since I do participate in the society, even if barely so, I have to make sure I'm presentable enough. Since my hair tends to get oily really fast, I need to wash it at least once a day, and since the stress of interacting with other people makes me sweat a lot and therefore smell somewhat, I might as well make it a full shower.

Because we want to and it makes us feel clean. Some of us also exercise. Even though I don't sweat much, I don't like the idea of falling asleep in my bed while not feeling clean.
About hair I agree though, I don't wash my hair every day because it can create additional damage, but I like taking showers, it improves my mood as well.

for me if I don't I stink. Hot days I might shower a couple 2 3 times, and change clothes.
plus now they have found that all of the crap we get into on a daily basis leaves known carcinogens on our bodies esp after a fire, so we now have to shower after a fire call.
There are so many cases of cancer now, it just isn't worth it.
It used to be different, but there are just so many synthetics out there, very few natural products that add heat and a couple of different ones together and you have some new toxic soup that you are exposed to.

Let’s get this right, I get up in the morning, go to work, work all day and maybe gym, get home, go to bed. My bed would be able to walk by the end of the week. As humans we sweat and leave dead skin all over the place. Showering helps getting rid of odours and all that work muck, all that old sweat. Makes me feel 🤮 someone not doing hygiene.

I shower every time I sweat (any time I workout, exercise or do anything physical activity) or any time I go out to meet others. But if I don't sweat during the day or go out to meet others, I don't shower. No one has said anything about me smelling and I have no skin conditions. People say I look younger than my age as well. If anything, my partners have all told me they like the way I smell. I don't use cologne.

People really are brainwashed by society. The main areas to wash frequently are your pits and your genitals. If you do that, you won't be smelling. Soap also isn't absolutely necessary either, unless you're doing hard labour or extreme physical tasks. All the bacteria that makes you smell is on the dead skin at the very surface of your skin. All you need is to scrub the dead skin off by exfoliating properly rather than using all the chemicals in soap.

Crazy as it sounds, I kinda feel like it's unhealthy to shower every single day lately.

My skin and hair look better and the other day a girl told me I had a nice natural scent which I'm not sure if that works for or against me.

When you add gym sessions, sex, or even a dirty job... that one single shower can sometimes not even feel like enough.

Plus, I start to get dandruff if I don't, and my balls start to feel even more itchy than my head.

I'll keep the showers and keep wroking out, having sex, and doing dirty shit.

If you've ever watched "Adam ruins everything". He explained that this was all a marketing campaign by the soap industry to get people to use their product more so they could sell more soap.
