Does a backpack with more storage help then one with less space to fit your stuff?

I can see where a large backpack might itself be cumbersome, even though it may hold more than a smaller one.
You just have to ask yourself what your priorities are in choosing a backpack.

I recently purchased a small leather man's bag. I had some difficulties in fitting my stuff into it, but I got used to it.
Shortly thereafter, a zipper on it went bad, so I returned it and purchased a larger bag.
It more easily holds my stuff, but it is different in its being larger.
