I watch so little TV that a 720p would be enough or me.
Why spend an am and a leg for something that is going to be used so seldom.
So, a 27"TV is also large enough. No need or a monster 55" TV that takes up space and collects dust.
Right now, I own a 3rd. hand, 20 year old, non flat screen TV that does do the job. As long as it still works, I have no urge to replace it for something that is likely going to break down in 2 years.
4k TV's are roughly the same price as 1080p TV's now, so it's quite obvious I'd choose a 4k TV over an HD TV.
Should I stick with my HDtv?
If it suits your needs and your happy with it, then yes, stick with your HD TV.

This why there is no need to upgrade your TV, it still looks good.
