Do you believe in fate, or do you think we have control over our own destinies? Do spirituality or religion play any role in your life?

if I believed in fate, it would mean that whatever I want and do doesn't matter because some events were already decided... and it clashes with my observations...
I can see that people who put an effort in, take a risk, fail, and learn their lives are much better than those who just wait for what fate decides for them...
I believe we are masters of our seas
no, I am not... but I like the idea of the free will
The subject of fate versus control of our own destinies is not a "this or that" question, to my way of thinking.
Fate?
I don't see evidence for that viewpoint.
Control of our own destinies?
We all make choices in life that may lead to our destinies being altered by our associations with other people in our lives, yet we make the choices that lead to those associations in the first place.
Unless one has an amazing gift of foresight, "control" is not a word that I'd use to predict my destiny.
My view is that "Ya rolls the dice and ya takes yer chances".
I have a spiritual life, believing that much more is possible than that which we may currently be fully aware of.
Cheers.
Fate is merely a simple word people use to describe elements of their lives that are outside of their control. Of course i understand that not everything is under my control. Therefore i believe in fate. A pragmatic understanding of the world and my place in it doesn’t mean much without context though. “How do you use ‘fate’?” is a much more urgent question. Is it a copout so that you never have to leave your comfort zone and risk failure? Or is it the unseen enemy that keeps you from strictly governing every aspect of your life and the world around you?
It really is just a barrier to happiness. The only way to overcome it is to practice acceptance and gratitude.
I think there are roles we’re best suited for just based on who we are, but taking on those roles is a choice. Destiny and believing you have one is also a choice, though it can be very easy to follow compared to some other choices you might make. Things like religion or even astrology try to help you find your destiny, and it’s most likely the path in life you would find the most fulfilling. It can be helpful to feel like you have something to guide you as you go about your life and make a thousand other choices.

Thankfully I still have full control of my life and destiny.
Not for one moment do I believe in any of this fucking spirituality or religious Bollox.
Thank you
"Do you believe in fate"
No.
"or do you think we have control over our own destinies?"
No.
Do spirituality or religion play any role in your life?
No.
There is no such thing as fate, destiny, or souls. All religions are bullshit, and life is unpredictable but can be partially controlled through knowledge, power, finances, and planning.
I used to believe in fate but I'm starting not to now.
My breakup with my boyfriend made me realize that maybe fate doesn't exist. I thought all this time we were driven together by fate but really it was just a choice to get together.
Thank you so much!
I'm pro-active at most things...
and that mostly means... to not leave things at luck, or other metaphysical entities and dynamics
We can't be in control of everything, but we can influence a lot. We can't predict if some three falls over by a storm and crushes our house or worse. But we can decide whether or not to stay around when the storm is on its way.
Sometimes I think it's 50/50 to say there's anything at all
And other times it's 50/50 to say it's really day by day - people "get what they give" and I don't wanna use religious jargon about ploughing fields lol 😆
Or plowing fields like Homer Simpsons Mr Plow lol 😆😆😆😆
95% of what happens in life is all of your making.
i think people and circumstances can get in the way of fulfilling our destinies. you deal with that the best way you can. it doesn't change yours. follow your path if you can, but we are fated to die at its hands no matter what.
kind of both.
Things can happen just because, but instead of sitting around waiting for something to happen, you can go make something happen.
Fate is the outcome of your decisions.
No, religion is bullshit and has no bearing on my life.
I think I was destined from the dawn of time to tell you we definitely have free will.
I believe in karma & shadenfreude
Fate is often confused with destiny and shouldn't be!
I believe in probability, which migh soirt of be the same as fate or destiny in some ways.
My uncle used to say that fate favors the one who digs the deepest foxhole. We make our own fate.
one is definitely not in control 100 percent
I operate as though my choices do make differences in some areas.
You beat me to it. I believe a man does what he can, until his destiny is revealed.
You receive what you give.
I have free will.
