Have you ever started a fire without using fire making gadgets?

So the OG way to make fire is using things you can find in the wilderness, have you ever tried to make a fire without using lighters, or any form of incendiary tools?

Years ago my friends and i after eating a pizza we made a fire in the pizza box, we used the pizza box to hide it from everyone cause it was in the middle of a complex infront of many balconies but we used two rocks and dead grass and dry bark and we hit the two rocks together til a spark fell on the kindling, we fed the fire til it got too big so we ran with the flaming pizza box to the closest body of water that's the day we realized we would not die in the wilderness. 🙂

Without lighters or matches or tools no. With lighters or matches or tools yes 🫣. Once we burned some book pages and plenty of tissues with alcohol and some of us used matches while others lighters during our informatics/computer science lesson in high school and each one of us threw those tissues and pages which were on fire inside some mini drawers we had below our desks.
I still don't know what we were trying to achieve, I still don't know how we were so ignorant of the risks involved.
Our teacher didn't even realize it because he had his back turned during the entire lesson and he didn't even pay attention to the whole incident.
He only said that it smelled like something was burned at the end of the lesson.

So you basically made a furnace in your classroom and the teacher was completely clueless? Did he ever find out? Was it the last day of school cause sounds like the day after there must have been some form of investigating or something? 😂

No it was a random day that we collectively decided to do something stupid in the classroom 🥲. I assume he must have found out from the burnt paper inside the drawers, we never got any punishment for some weird reason. Thinking about it he must have been so mentally exhausted in general that he didn't care whatever happened. He was almost robotic

Never without tools. I was already quite proud when my father in law taught me how to use flintstone and steel with a flintstone we found while mushroom picking.
Its not a real tool like a lighter but its still Known to be used for exactly that.

I have no idea how to start a fire like that. I just know that an impossibly long list of consequences derives from the fact that some dead people, far away in time, wanted to capture fire.

They were not using a pizza box. I'm certain.

Yeah, we tried it a few times decades ago with the wooden stick chafing against the split wooden plank. It works, but it takes quite an effort.

You get a lot of quartz on the beaches here and you can see a flash when you bang them together but I've never seen a spark fly off or anyone start a fire with them.
