What do you think of Luce, the Vatican's new Anime Mascot?

To celebrate the Vatican's jubilee year, as well as its Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, the Vatican has developed an anime-style mascot named Luce. What do you thin of Luce?

Being non-religious, my reaction is... "Whatever".

I see nothing wrong with the concept of an anime mascot to attract kids. And it opens up opportunities for merchandising - dolls, books, cartoons.

After all, religions are full of iconography - the crucifix, the cross, all kinds of depictions of Jesus, manger scenes, the Blessed Mother, saints, angels, Buddhas, Hindu gods, ancient religions, etc. People like imagery.

Some ancient religions actually celebrated sexuality. But it would be seen as sacrilegious to portray modern religious icons sexually. Some people would get very upset.
But a cute, anime girl seems like an easy target. She's not a historic religious figure like Jesus. So satirical anime porn depictions of her aren't exactly sacrilegious.

I think most religious icons are kinda funny. And so are pornographic depictions of Luce.

Doesn't really do anything for me, but if it's effective, then good for them I guess. Japan's social crisis (suicide, loneliness, loss of purpose - similar problems as what's happening in parts of the US) can be directly countered by the proliferation and meshing of Christian values, and assuming that they teamed up with competent writers, they could easily make a successful and wholesome series of books and shows for outreach.

Most attempts at outreach that I've seen in the Catholic Church consist of building future crackhouses in South America, and more recently, expediting human trafficking across the southern US border alongside other Christian denominations, the Red Cross, and a dozen other non-profits all in ignorant, blissful "compassion." Helping people to help themselves is better than handouts and turning blind eyes any day of the week.

Hmmm, this is news to me for sure. In general I definitely like animation, both Western and Eastern. So Luce seems pretty cool to me.

To clarify, the non-sexualized Luce. Not the sexualized Luce.

In general I'm not too big on sexualized cartoon characters, but even worse when they seem to be minors, which Luce looks like.
