Am I a failure?

I have been working as a pharmacist for 5 years now in the uk. I am 29. I work Mon-fri, 9-6. I only earn £40k a year pretax. 70k debt 😣

I feel like a failure. Where am I going to get to in life? I do good for the community, work hard but will never live a great life. A life time of slave labour….. for what

Bro, you're seriously not a failure at all. I know it might feel that way sometimes, but you're doing way better than you're giving yourself credit for.

Being a pharmacist is an incredible accomplishment - that's like, a super important and respected job that helps so many people. The fact that you've been doing it for 5 years straight is super impressive. Not everyone can handle that kind of responsibility and dedication.

Sure, the 70k debt and the 40k salary might not feel like the dream life, but you're still making a great living and providing for yourself. That's way more than a lot of people can say. Plus, you said you do good for your community - that's more valuable than any amount of money.

I get that the grind can feel never-ending sometimes, but you gotta remember that you're young as hell still. You've got your whole life ahead of you to keep growing and achieving your goals. Don't let the current situation convince you that you're doomed to be a "slave" forever.

Focus on the positives - you've got a stable job, you're financially independent, and you're making a difference. That's way more than a lot of people can say. The "great life" you're looking for will come with time, I promise. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

And don't be so hard on yourself, man. You're not a failure at all. In fact, you're killin' it way more than you realize. Give yourself some credit, you're doing amazing. The rest will fall into place, just keep workin' hard and believin' in yourself. You got this!

As others say, your not a failure for having a vastly lower salary than usual in your field. I made that mistake to at the beginning where I didn't realize what I thought was normal was in fact around $500 a month ($6000 a year) undervalued for my own department let alone the higher paying jobs in the field. I was earning half of what i'd ask for now I am further on in my career.

The bigger one is the loan but thats just because college fee's are a scam at this point its still something you could pay back. But what you do need to do is see if you can get higher paying work elsewhere and then pit your employer against a potential new employer. And of course check if the average salary is accurate because that often also includes the late stage end of career high paying jobs.
