So I'm a failure?

Listening to this older coworker pretty much saying people are failures who don't do college and they just "work" all their life

Probably has a rich husband and she sits t home so of course she has this 11 hour job while hubby puts more work into it

I'm too broke to afford college right now and worry a art degree is a waste of time and my money

The thing about "failure" is it is defined by your personal definition of success.

For some people, "winning" at life means stacking up fat piles of cash. For others, it simply means laughing a lot. Another person might gauge their success by how much they make other people laugh. Or cry. Still others see success as having amazing skills, or traveling, or having interesting adventures. I have an uncle who abhors travel, but he reads voraciously, and his adventures are had without leaving his comfy recliner.

My extremely long life story surmised fairly briefly: I did next to nothing with my life for the first 20 years; finally finished an AA degree 8 years after starting college, worked a lot of restaurants and odd jobs like snowboard instructor or blacksmith's apprentice. Found firefighting in my early 20s, did that for over a decade. Didn't make much, but I got to travel domestically for work 6 months a year for over 10 years, and 6 months internationally vacationing each year. Here I am going back to school for a ADN and BSN (nursing degrees) to get my RN, and most likely will continue on to get a PMHNP or CRNA license. A little late at 45, but still plenty of time to make enough money to buy the boat I want and sail the Pacific Rim, a bucket list item for me.

I feel like a great success, and I've worked a lot. LOL I'm on my 3rd sixteen hour shift RIGHT NOW and doing another 16 tomorrow. That will be 64 hours worked in 4 days. Just finished an assignment for a college course, and looking forward to getting a little kip between shifts.

So, you figure it out. What's your definition of "success" and "failure"?

I'm a failure as well, I make $100,000 a year driving an 18-wheeler. It's a career that is frowned upon because we're supposed to be stupid uneducated idiots. I didn't spend $100,000 on an education because the school is not for me. But I also don't have student loans for the next 40 years. How stupid is it to go spend that kind of money and still be broke because you have student debt for that long of a time.

Don't put much stock in what you were told. To be a failure at age 27 would be hard to do. I'm not saying that folks haven't achieved failure at an early age, but most of them put in considerable time and effort in order to fail.

Doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a loser. College isn’t for everyone. There’s people who make millions of dollars w out college. College is just an endless machine of producing workers to continue to run this country. Did she go to college? If she did why’s she working there w you if she’s gone to college? I wouldn’t pay any attention to her. She sounds like a POS. Nothing wrong w working hard. Tell her to get bent lol
