Why are snow days a thing in the US?

not all schools are the same. some close if there's like barely any snow and some don't close unless you're buried in it lol

I very rarely had any snow days, when I was younger. We'd get 12+ inches of snow overnight, and still have to to school.

Nowadays, it seems like they close the schools as soon as someone sees a single snowflake. It's maddening. "School's are closed!" and there's literally not even enough snow to necessitate shoveling the driveway. 🤦‍♂️

Because people often live far away from their school and when road conditions are bad, it may be too dangerous to have the normal amount of traffic on them.

or js walk? i walk to school and i live 30 min away. the bus is always working where i live too. and when americans get snow days its not even a lot of snow

@chocolatetwopointo my kids school is a 20 mintue drive away on a country back road type of highway lol. For them to walk even on a day nice could be deadly

My kids live in a Germany and never get snow days either but they live in a city with good public transportation

Because it's to dangerous to drive in a lot of snow especially whee the roads are icy

That totally depends on where in the US. Where I live it's common to get a couple feet of snow. Sometimes even get snowed in so badly that I can't open my front door 😅
