But it's not important. We don't know, and can never know. Even if there is a God, there's no evidence that any of the currently popular religions are true and no evidence that religious practice has any benefit. When read critically, all the holy books are patently absurd.

Nature is full of pain and suffering. For example parasoide wasp larve eat their host alive avoiding the organs to keep it alive longer. Many animals swallow prey alive to due slowly as they burn in stomach acid. Most wild animals will perish in agony through predation or disease in childhood. Does that sound the work of a creator.
