Was restraining someone and leaving a couple bruises overdone?

A couple people spread rumors about me and some girl. She believed them all and I tried telling her it's false. We have never gotten along with each other but now she wanted to fight me.

Her first slap attempt was blocked. I told her this is ridiculous. She tried to go for another slap and it was blocked once again. In a serious tone, I said ''this is your last warning, stop right now.'' The thing is I know my level and strength so I didn't really want to hurt her badly.

Then she tried going for a punch. It got deflected and I pinned her down hard. She ended up pleading to let her go. It left a couple bruises on her arm. I felt kind of bad though. I didn't want to fight her. Yet at the same time, I'm not going to stand there and let her attack me. Do you think I overdid it or not? She almost would've gotten suspended if it weren't for a couple witnesses.

You did what you had to do! Always protect yourself. Let nobody step on your toes without defending yourself. You shouldn't feel bad about it

Thanks. It's a good thing there were witnesses to this and they backed me up. Otherwise schools tend to suspend or place detention on both the aggressor and the one defending themselves. Sometimes their policies don't make sense.

Sometime it's very difficult to verify what happened if 2 people tell completely different stories. Witnesses help a lot obviously

She should have been suspended. Attacking you is a crime.

yeah I'm surprised she only got a detention. It's usually a suspension for fighting.

Luckily there were witnesses to back me up and I was just told to head back to class. I got no punishment at all. Good. I'm sick of schools trying to punish you even for defending yourself. I didn't even want to retaliate; I just wanted her to stop the attack.

yeah. I did let her go when she pleaded. She kept saying ''get away from me'' and walked away fast. I don't like fighting. It sucks that I was about to get suspended for stopping her attack.

Luckily I had others to back me up and she got a detention. Schools don't make sense. So basically they expect you to turn the other cheek, continue letting someone attack you (even when you're walking away and they were to still follow you) and then inform it to the school principal.

Yea at least she got detention yea its not much of a punishment but its something
