The interiors of the homes you see that appear to be ok are filled with smoke residue and debris.

They just *look ok*, but they are uninhabitable. They will have to be torn down. Sorry, I should have clarified this earlier.

Makes me sick to my stomach. I used to drive through right, exactly there all of the time and wished I could live there on that strip right on the water.

Nope, they did not.

They were mostly all built before California had all of these crazy wild fires in the middle of inhabited areas. I find it ironic that homes right in front of an entire ocean burned to the ground. A large part of the problem is that most of the structures throughout the state were built when no one ever imagined this possibility. This really only started around 2000-2002.

Except read my update to this question. All those houses are going to have to be torn down because they are all really contaminated with smoke residue and debris which is highly toxic and almost impossible to get rid of. That happens a lot unfortunately.

I understand that, our homes are filled with all sorts of toxins... plastic... it's why my local trash burning incinerator was shut down as well. See my point though... how did that row ignite, but not the one above? Must be more to the photo and how the wind blew... odd it blew towards the ocean.
I made this point elsewhere... where did all that toxic smoke go... lithium batteries, plastics, chemicals, etc.. As a smart man once said... the solution to pollution... is dillution! It's spread all over, but it's there for a while. Or somewhere.

So part of the weirdness about a Santa Ana wind is that it blows in the opposite direction of what it normally does. In California, that means that it blows offshore and most winds over the sea blow inshore. I am not sure what that has to do with what we are seeing if anything, but I think in some fashion it was a factor.
