When comes down to masculinity it does really depend on social norms, personal prospective, personal needs and economical circumstances.
Masculinity is a much more complex topic that the guy in the video is trying to simplify and summarise in a 45 minutes short video. Masculinity is divided between sexual dimorphism and personal human behaviour in a society, the 2 things are not equally correlated or linked. A man can expose a higher level of masculinity through sexual dimorphism but yet being the total opposite when comes to behavioural human interaction and the same can be said regarding a man that might not look or appear to have high masculinity, but then showing a much stronger masculine side when his behaviour is motion while socially interacting or being in a long stable heterosexual relationship. I would say, in my own opinion I’m masculine in both spectrums, but masculinity can’t be counted on a a scale with a point system, as it won’t work as masculinity and femininity, change depending on the social norms of a country and the expectations from social norms.
Are you a feminine woman? It’s a very hard question to answer, femininity is a combination of female sexual dimorphism and feminine traits, which are applied to a particular gender type and follow a certain societal structure and pattern, but every woman might have a certain degree of femininity and less feminine traits. Maybe she loves to wear makeup but yet she eats food like a sow, which is a more a stereotypical trait of a masculine behaviour.
I think what’s important in both sexual intercourse and long lasting relationship, to be happy for who you are and embrace your own identity, by avoiding to become static and prisoner of social norms and expectations placed upon you from birth. Being heterosexual doesn’t imply a man should behave in a certain manner to try to place or impress a woman, as I wouldn’t want that from any girlfriend of mine. I always paid for the check at the restaurant, bought flowers and told all my ex girlfriend how much I loved them, how beautiful they are and always been extremely faithful as im very much into monogamy in a relationship. But that’s not a side of masculinity but is a sign of highly social intellectual maturity, caring and empathy, which (most women might be surprised to hear) men are capable to have or achieve. Perhaps you’re confusing masculinity with gallantry, which are not the same thing and they’re very much based of social status, physical appearance, education, background and social environment. You can’t expect a man that grown up in the “hood” will very little income, possibly drug addiction to escape life problems, being brought up by a broken and dysfunctional family, and being surrounded by other men in the same scenario and circumstances to behave the same way of a well educated and high earning man would. The two worlds are too much apart. Funny enough, the first example of the man in the hood would 100% display an extreme masculine behaviour compared to the second man, why? Because masculinity is mostly based on the principle of dominance and strength, while the second man is more linked to a higher social status and well- educated background which will be more likely turn his natural masculine behaviour of aggression into gallantry. Your video is about gallantry not masculinity. Hope this helps.
I don’t have time for the whole 45 minutes right now, but I agree 100% with the first two minutes👍
I don't share this enthusiasm for self-help and gurus, especially when this institution brings nothing new to the table, presentation changes but substance remains the same
I don't really need the video to tell me... lol
@NathanDavis
I've watched it twice so can I quiz you to see if you know everything there is to know about being a real masculine man?
lmao, sure... I do like a quizz
I meant, I prefer the Navy drills, but yeah... let's go with a quiz
is this a manly test for manly patience?
@NathanDavis
When a man is a real masculine man, does he automatically gain the respect of others, or does he still have to earn respect from others?
that really depends on the circumstances and the context of any situation
there's no such thing as "automatic respect" that doesn't belong to the real world...
also... respect is a dynamic that depends on two or more people, not a one sided thing
@NathanDavis
A lot of people trust people that they don't even know.
We've had discussions on here about that before and I remember saying that a person has to earn my trust. I don't just blindly trust people.
well, that's usually, a good policy... especially with people online
blind trust is no real trust
That's a gentleman not a masculine men
