Why do some people love homewares?

I regard them as clutter; but I noticed one of my friends goes mad for ornaments and pretty vases and sweaters and things. I understand the clothes and jewellery. But not the vases and ornaments and delicate things in general that have no purpose.

Some things like ornaments are only intended to look good. I don't mind one or two, but beyond that they can simply create clutter.
