m 1 ylong, long, long time I gave up on sleeping because of insomnia...
my focus now is... to get some rest, and by this... I mean for my mind not to overthink, or to even think as less as possible, for my body to be the most comfortable and relaxed and my emotions not being frustrated because I can't fall asleep
so, whenever I get in bed... I make sure I am the most comfortable in there, and focus on only one thing at all... and the goal is that one to relax and rest... not to fall asleep, because that can take me about 40 minutes to an hour or two
eventually I just fall asleep, and if not... well, at least I got some good rest rather than an stressful frustrated and failed attempts to falling asleep00 Reply

Some sourdough toast with guac and salsa helps me. Gives me a small menial task to take my mind off whatever is keeping me up and shuts my stomach and brain up for a bit, enough to at least fall asleep. Staying asleep is a different story. I avoid doing anything physical as that just makes me feel more of the annoying kind of tired.

Pico de gallo for the salsa, though I use pre diced tomatoes because of how messy dicing them gets. For the guac I'll make little batches of it that usually lasts around a week. Any longer than that and the guac starts losing its structure with all the lemon juice I gotta use to keep it looking green instead of turning brown.

1 yI learned a long time ago that resting can be just as good as sleeping. So, if I’m having trouble sleeping, I remember that closing my eyes and laying down and breathing steady for 20 minutes is the physical equivalent of a 20 minute powernap and that rest will give my brain the refresh it needs to get through the next day.

1 yi usually start a sleep meditation with my phone. if that doesn't work, get up, take a 15 minute walk outside and repeat. important: avoid looking at your phone or the time as much as possible. try to focus on your body and how you feel in the moment. be aware of your thoughts of tomorrow or life in general that will come up and try to gently shut them down turning focus back to your body. Don't be mad at these thoughts coming up. it's just your mind doing it's job.
