The first such technique was invented in the mid 1930's and I don't think that anyone would have been lobotomized if they would have lived back then as they live now.

They would have been misunderstood for sure but I don't think that authorities would have allowed it.

Personally, I would not have been lobotomized because I don't have a lifestyle that is much different from that period. I do exactly what other younger adults did in those days, meaning I concentrate solely on my studies, I don't party or have a life that would not have been understood in the early 20th. century. I would have fit perfectly in that decade.
