How do you pronounce the word "cotton"?

We have a pet bunny and tonight my wife started singing Peter Cottontail to it. After all, Easter is on its way.

The song was running through my head later and I realized that I say something more like "cot'n". I pulled up the original recording by Gene Autry and he does the same thing.

Does anyone pronounce "cot'ton" distinctly?

Cot - ton. Yes. I pronounce it distinctly I think (after trying it out several times lol). Cos sometimes is like cot-tn. But that's just bring lazy.
