I say “foy-ah”, lmao, like an attempt at option ‘A’ but with a Boston accent. I think I learned the word from teachers and school administrators and whatnot, because at a few schools we had a “main foyer” at the front entrance, with a hard ‘er’ (or said like I say it, depending on who was saying it), and you’d just hear it used like “we’ll assemble for the field trip in the main foyer”, or “a sign up sheet for tryouts is on the bulletin board in the main foyer”, etc.
So that makes me think how I usually don’t think of it in terms of a residence, just in various institutional buildings, businesses, whatever. And I’ll tell you what…the French-y sounding way feels better for a residential “foy-ay”, but I prefer “foy-ur” for non-residential. I don’t quite know why, but that’s what I’m feeling😂
Foy-yay, as it is a French word.
You could pronounce it "Foy-er," like it rhymes with lawyer. But you'd be wrong and sound foolish doing so. However, language evolves on wrong words and mispronunciations all the time, like people misusing "literally" in the figurative sense, or thinking the Black word "nigga" has the same negative and insulting connotations as "n**ger," when it's the actual opposite of that.
In short, "foy-er/foy-ur" is wrong, but lots of people will still pronounce it that way, anyway.
LMFAOO- "never seen that word in my life"
Also, I always pronounced it as "Foy-ur," until someone I knew pointed to one, uttering "foy-ay," and knocked the wind out of my lungs, and whatever water was in my mouth.. and lungs..
Now:
If I become a millionaire or want to act like one, I'll say "foy-ay"
otherwise, I'll always say foyer like a normal person. :)
I have heard it pronounced FOY-AY, but not me

I speak it the way a French would speak it: ''foyer'' :)
FOY-ah is how I’ve heard it, but the dictionary says it’s FOY-ay, which I find it weird to pronounce. I just not use the word.
Americans tend to say "ur." Brits pronounce it "ay." I use "entryway."
In what language? It's like "forte"- the pronunciation is different in English and its native tongue.
I used to say four-yer. Lol
But now I say it the correct way. Which is the way it's spelled!
