How much *longer - I remember in 2013 they were saying in uni "paper will still be with us for some time ahead," - despite even then the rise of smartphones and tablets

I support the old system. I'd much rather have a paper record, and sometimes information needs to be printed, and I'd rather receive it in the post. I like to send Birthday and Christmas cards by post. I buy newspapers, and I can't imagine reading a book from a tablet.

A long time yet. Something written on paper will still be around in a thousand years but electronic copies are tied to the technology of the day.

@purplepoppy MHO #2, however Poppy, others have said 10-20 years. I feel like 2040 is as Doc would say a nice round number - ah well sad - like sadly disappearing small cars :(
