How far into the past are newspapers becoming so far?

If they haven't gone digital they are getting close to being a thing of the past. Probably the vast majority have gone digital, but digital newspapers aren't the same as the paper newspapers were. For one thing, paper newspapers survived on advertisements, including classified ads. They've lost too much of that revenue to the thousands of online advertising venues. Another big difference is paper newspaper were printed once a day, and digital papers are basically a continuous stream (which dramatically lowers the quality in my opinion). They also have a heck of a lot more competition.
When I was young most houses on my street had the paper delivered. Now I think there is only one house that gets delivery.
I also don't see newspaper machines any more. They used to be everywhere - at stores, gas stations, restaurants, etc. Off the top of my head I can't think of any now. They've disappeared like pay phones.
Newspapers are still very much around; but pretty much every newspaper has both an print version and a digital version.
For instance, I live in rural Missouri and have digital subscriptions to The New York Times and Wall Street Journal, both based out of New York City and difficult to buy in print here and they will not be delivered to my home. Same with The Washington Post which I also have a subscription too. I also sometimes read the local paper (printed twice/week) and visit its website although, if I had a digital subscription, I'd see more.
I also have a digital subscription to The Athletic, a digital-only sports newspaper.
I know many of them are online now , but it seems it mostly that and not so much printed anymore except a little bit. I’m wondering how much will printed versions be a thing of the past and how much of the past it has became already
Have always been online*** sorry I wrote that wrong accidentally
For another generation at least, there should be some printed newspapers even if they are rather sparse.
Printed versions of newspapers - even if that print version is completely digital - is important for historical reasons. Much historical research is done by examining microfiche of old printed newspapers. The transient nature of websites is unacceptable for that, so do not be surprised if some law comes to pass within 2 generations that all digital newspapers need to create a definitive version for that day. Such a file would then be sent to the National Archives.
Not National Archives but Library of Congress.
Already, the LOC has quite a few...

My parents still read the newspaper online but I don't know about really young kids like 5 or 6. My sister knows what they are and she’s eight.
I mean paper versions
Oh ok
Not at all, I have a subscription to the Financial Times, and telegraph
Is it digital?
Yes a digital news paper downloaded onto my tablet every morning 5am.
I mean ones that aren’t digital ones
I could get the paper subscription but my local news agents are flaky so I can’t always get the paper
Yeah that’s what I mean. It seems paper versions are becoming a thing in the past
It’s the corner shop who are the liability, paper form may be the thing of the past but the format of the newspaper isn’t, website is one thing but articles good enough for print are higher quality

The are obsolete. They report day old news, the best the can do is hours old news. I subscribe to a news aggregator and get the most current news available. Often from local news sources where events have occurred. No way a news paper can compete with that.
Local news is available online too. Some on social media pages of local government or on their websites.
My wife went to the supermarket today and said that she walked past a newspaper stand and the front page caught her eye. As she was going through the register she saw that it was $4.50. The paper had half as many pages than it used to have and it was all ads and filler articles.
They’re functionally obsolete. You can read the news as soon as it happens. You don’t have to wait for the editors to print the account of what happened nearly a whole day later. Any attachment to a newspaper now is just sentimental value or just a love for journalism, which is now just an editorial of the news anyway.
i haven't bought one for a while cause there too expensive , they used to be a $1 now like $ 3 or even $ 4 for 1 paper which is way too much when i could go online and read things
Yeah they're dead.
French girl spotted
French girl spotted?
Nope
I didn’t pay that close attention, I just searched newspapers 😂
Yeah they really are. Everything seems to be becoming a thing of the past
I don’t know. I post so many random questions that I decide to make some of them anonymous so not everything is generalized on my profile 😂
Newspapers are less common than they once were, but they aren't extinct yet. My family still subscribes to the local paper.
The paper version or digital?
The paper version.
My father even reads some of the articles aloud at dinner most nights, believe it or not.
Oh wow, I can see why he continues to read them
Haven't bothered subscribing for years.
Can find all I need online and get more than one point of view.
Although I don’t read them anymore I wish they would stay around I like them
Physical newspapers are quickly becoming a relic of the 20th century. It would depend on each individual if they know about newspapers or not.
I really miss the daily printed newspaper. I do not like to receive my news and other transactions online.
I read em a lot, gives me something to get out of bed for instead of reading it online.
extremely young kids are just discovering "dirt" and it is awesome...
Do you think they will know about newspapers as they age up a little?
Surely they will discover them eventually, same as how my generation knows about ice boxes (or whatever they were called) and everything else
But like as they are young. Sorry got separating the texts
It's sad they won't make swords or pirate hats with them.
They are inrealvate anymore
