Why is it that turning 18 allows you to see and experience war but not drink?

Here in the US the drinking age is 21 but joining any of the military branches only requires age 18, you can go to war, shoot guns, kill people, use heavy weaponry and come back traumatized for your country but you can't have an alcoholic beverage in your country? I'm asking this question hoping there's a logical explanation for such a idiotic law.

Because when your country is at war you're protecting the public from invasion but when you drink alcohol you endanger the public especially if you decide to drive. However, certain alcoholic beverages actually have health benefits if drank moderately like wine or champagne as it contains antioxidants just don't endanger the public when drinking them and don't drink too much as you can destroy your liver.

We live in a twisted world where a lot of things are backwards. When I was 18 I bartended however 21 was the drinking age.

Don't older people drunk drive too, according to the charts the age range that has the most consistent DUI drivers is 21-24 and following closely behind is 25-34 👀

Well, technically the charts or studies would have most of their drinking analytics from people that are older than 21 since it is already illegal to drink under that age. But you make a great point, the people with the most consistent DUIs come from the youngest legal drinking age, so imagine if we add a few more generations to that. It would be the same issues we have now, making it illegal seems somewhat pointless at this point, lately less younger people are doing drugs than they were a few years ago, so maybe theyd surprise you 🤔

You make a good point, I'm guessing you're speaking of marijuana and how it's been legal in some states, I don't know too much about the stats for that, but maybe that's too big of a risk to take. I think drunk driving can be significantly more dangerous than driving under the influence of marijuana. I would imagine that makes people a bit slower.

@EmmiL No, our family literally force us to drink or there's also child that steal their father beer xD one guy in my class used to steal his father beer when he was only 10, he was pretty proud of it too so it's not just neglected kids as his father was actually rather strict but alcohol is not a big deal in France at all.
