Starting when I was very young, my parents took us camping for a week every summer at a campground in the San Bernardino mountains. But we went to Yosemite and Big Sur once. I fell in love with nature. We had one of those big canvas tents and cots on those trips. Hauling, setting up, and taking down that stuff was a real job.

In my late teens and 20s, my friends and I went backpacking quite a few times with only sleeping bags and thin, foam mats.
But when I went on longer 2 weeks backpacking trips high up into the mountains, I finally got a tent.

After I got married, I took my wife camping a few times and used a small, 3 man tent but brought inflatable mattresses. But when we started going camping with friends, she wanted a tent she could stand up in to get dressed, so we got a larger one. Then she wanted a folding cot because, even with the inflatable mattress, she said the ground was cold. And she brought along an extra comforter. She's not very rough and tough. LOL

I stayed in cabins several times with my family when I was in my teens. And my wife and I have stayed in cabins quite a few times, too.

We've never been glamping, but it looks fun.

I've never been traveling or camping in an RV or travel trailer.

My wife and I slept under the roof of my camping trailer for years and many of mornings I would wake up to ​find a hard frost on the ground while we were nice and worm inside our sleeping bags and many of nights I would lay awake at night watching the stars and listening to the owls talk at night and wake up in the morning to see the deer walking across our lot were we camped and at night we cooked on the campfire. I loved it down there​ and I never wanted to go home. Dennis

Camping isn’t real camping unless you go tent camping style.. though I love the fact that you can drive up to the mountains and just chill there in an RV.. they even have camp grounds near beaches if you want to pull out your tent or camper
