Do these churches look indigenized or colonial to you?

I'm more used to seeing those european style gothic and baroque cathedrals but then when i searched for images about our old churches, I thought it looked "temple like" at first but also distinctly Christian. I can see those bell towers scaled down into a garden decor. A recent earthquake here destroyed one of them. Then rural people chanted and doing rituals like a folk religion fused with Christianity. I never thought they still exist.

They're very old but some of them are just maintained well

I do appreciate ancient architecture. The only question I have is why those particular ones abandoned. Why aren’t they being used as what they were built to be at church. I do know as a Christian myself we don’t chant. Chanting is for Buddhist. I could be wrong just my thoughts on that.

Actually they aren't. They're fully functioning Cathlolic churches. There are broken ones but with remains preserved tho People here still have traditions surviving or reinterpreted into the modern times while fusing them with catholism. Although they're not used during masses. It's used mostly on celebrations.

Before people became christians here, they were animists and it's flexible which is why it can fuse.

I feel like they're indigenized. But I understand the colonial point of view. There's just a thin line of difference. Either way, they're really stunning. Love the first church.

Perfect blend somewhat. Many actually accepted Christianity by choice. Spanish power here wasn't as strong as in South America but they did made a lot of attempts in brainwashing. We were indianized before colonization.

Or I guess it just being old and less maintained make it look temple like. Anyways, I never thought it's intriguing to see European architecture or something like a church getting vegetated in a jungle climate.

Search for Sagrada Church, easily one of the most detailed architecture I have ever seen.

Yeah. Plenty of very ornate gothic/baroque church in Europe but im more familiar with them. Commonly featured
