Do you buy your Halloween costumes or do you make them?

Do you buy or make your Halloween costumes, and why? When i was young, we were poor. So we weren’t buying costumes. At least not the kool new ones. After Halloween clearance racks for next year’s costume and it had to last as long as it fit. Ell oh ell! As an adult, i’m just not that creative and i’m kind of lazy. So if i can’t put something together out of clothes i already own, i’ll either buy something cheap or be the party pooper.
I admire people who create their own brilliant costumes, even if done modestly. I don’t get the people who spend a lot of money on sophisticated costumes, but i dig their enthusiasm! I think cosplayers have a natural advantage in that aspect.
How about you? Do you make your costumes or do you buy them, and why?

For the past few years, I've been making my own costumes and concepts of what I want to be. Will people know what I am? 99% No, but that's the best part, especially if you're dressed as something uniquely horrifying! This is what I plan to be/what I'm currently working on for this year! I already have the mask mostly done, just need to do the cloak, extra arms, and fur hood for the mask!

Oh that's so cool ☺️😎 I usually prefer store bought - I'm slightly lazy 😁 plus they do it better , the professionals (aka a costume from a packet from a department store chain 🏬) 😁

I create my own just to save money. I’d rather spend money on something I’d wear again and small costume accessories then buy the whole costume for twice the amount I would’ve spent on it if I made it myself.

With cosplay for me it's a mix between buying parts, simply a top, and making the rest. It can take some time or I just buy the stuff I need months ahead of time and start to put it together. I did buy a costume for a party but that was because I needed something just for that and had no plans to wear it to a con.

I wish I knew a good way to make my own costume. I dont have any sewing skills. So easy made mybe upcycling from hings that usually would go to trash and that I can wear it more than one time.

I highly recommend sewing tutorials from cosplayers on YT, mostly start with hand sewing! It's pretty tricky at first, but you'll get the hang of it! And as silly as it sounds, look into whatever fursuit makers do for sewing techniques. I've learned all of my handsewing, machine sewing, and general fabrication skills from them LOL
I recommend searching up "Beginner's Guide to Learning to Sew for Cosplay" by Ginny Di on YouTube; that was one of the videos that helped me along my sewing journey!
