When you finished a canned beverage, do you crush it before tossing it or just toss it?

I'm a crusher, and I crush beer cans into not much higher than ½ inch tall disc.

That isn't all that I crush.

I crush all cans, bottles and boxes too.

The reason for this activity is because I collect all my crushed recycle containers in a big bag, the crushed boxes I keep separate, and I make just one trip to the recycle skip.

With everything being crushed it also saves space in the recycle skip.

I have seen a crushing device that can be bought for a few dollars, but I do all my crushing by hand.

I don't drink canned beverages, but my wife drinks things like coconut water in cans at times. We save cans, plastic and glass bottles that have CRV and take them to a recycling center to cash them in.

With containers that don't have CRV, I do crush them to save space in the trash can. I go through a 1/2 gal of milk a week and crush those containers, along with anything else that's crushable.

How much you make from recycling?

It's 5¢ on regular size and 10¢ on two liter size containers.

You pay that CRV when you buy the beverage, so it makes sense to get your money back. The whole point of CRV was to encourage people to recycle.
We wait until we have a lot before we go to the recycling place. Yeah, it adds up to a few bucks, sometimes $20 or more. What the heck?

What I can't do is reach anything on the top shelf in my kitchen. I still need help with that.😅

I used to crush them until both of my rotator cuffs became badly torn.

I used to recycle them, too, before my municipality revamped our town's recycling system, making recycling a major pain in the ass.

No. The machine needs to read the bar code on the can. I get my 5 cents back that I pay attention time of purchase. It really adds up when I take them back every 2 weeks

I rinse it out with water then crush it into a 1" chunk of aluminum with my hands before chucking it in my recycle bin.
