Another age old debate. It's definitely called soda where I'm from. But I've also been down south a few times to "popville" lol. I can't remember what they were calling it in Cali when I visited.
Only rednecks from the Midwest call it "Pop." Same thing with rednecks from the south calling literally all sodas "Coke," even Pepsi and Mountain Dew. Not that I even drink soda too often; it's VERY bad for you! I prefer orange juice, apple juice, or lemonade to Pepsi or Coca Cola.
I call it "Soda," or at worst "Soda Pop," cause I'm not an illiterate redneck from Indiana. 😂

I'm kind of joking here, but yeah. Don't call soda "pop" like it's your daddy. 01 Reply- +1 y
Lol everyone knows it's bad for you. Water is your friend.

+1 yOver here in South MS we call it “drank”. I just call it soda when i type it out online because most assume drank is alcohol. But like if you go to anyones house, they offer you some “drank” which could be any Coke or Pepsi product. If its juice or tea, we just say juice or tea

Drank is definitely known as lean over here.

When I lived around Pittsburgh PA I called it pop. That was the word around there. When I moved to Harrisburg Pa I started calling it soda. That's what they say here. Same state, but separated by mountains.
11 Reply- +1 y
Also same state, different city and we call it soda
Honestly I have heard pop, soda, soda-pop, coke, and cola. Drank is a new one I’ve never heard of but I have only been in the south twice and neither times did I really get to interact with locals. But I have been all across the norther line. I personally call it soda but I think that is particular to my location. I’m in the New England corner.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI call it the name of the thing that it is.
I dont really drink it so I actually dont remember what I authentically used to call those drinks anymore, maybe fizzy drinks?
I might say pop now if were going to use a catch all term but that is extremely unlikely.
10 Reply525 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. No point in using extra words for no reason. Therefore I call the drink by it's name. Fanta is just Fanta. Pepsi is Pepsi.
112 Reply- +1 y
@AndrésC64 I mean factually they are all known as soft drinks so that.
- +1 y
Lol there's nothing extra about categorizing something.
- +1 y
Oh there is even a response on here is a great example why it is.
“What do you want to drink”
“Coke.”
“What kind?”
“Dr. Pepper”
When all this needs to be is "What do you want to drink" "Dr Pepper."
There is 0 reason to specific beforehand it's just adding in extra words and prolonging the question asked. - +1 y
@AndrésC64 I know
- +1 y
@AndrésC64 It makes perfect sense to a real situation that happens in real life. That shows exactly why it's extra. Instead of saying Juice when someone asks what do you want to drink just say orange juice if that's what you want. No need to add extra into it.
- +1 y
@AndrésC64 Nope I choose to answer why I wouldn't use such words as Pop or soda. So when the question was Do you call it soda or pop? I answered with why I wouldn't call it ethier.
