Would you drive an Invacar?

Question

In the UK, if you're claiming disability benefits then you're entitled to a free car to help you get about. Usually, it's something like a BMW.

However, the far right Reform party want to return to the old cheaper three wheel Invacar (short for invalid car) as they are a lot cheaper.

The original car was scraped due to a high number of fatalities, but let's be honest, most 60s cars were death traps.

So, if they brought it back, stuck in an electric motor and airbags, would you have one?

I have stated multiple times the following, elsewhere on this site about my car preferences if I were to drive:

I don't have a dream car because I don't place much emphasis on cars. As long as it takes me from A to B and that I can put my shopping bag in the trunk, any car will do. I don't need a big 4WD or sedan car since I am always alone in that car.

Thus, a 2 seater would be sufficient for the use I plan to have. Currently, I do not own a car since I am a student and don't have the necessary funds to afford one. My travels basically take me by either bicycle or public transportation. That is enough at this stage of my life.

However, if I could chose, I would take something like that:

The last one being my all time favorite. A Brütsch-Mopetta from the late 1950's. That would be the ideal mode of transportation except for when it is raining. You can even tow it inside your place and conveniently carries a shopping bag.

It looks safer than a Tesla. Yes, just about anything is safer than a Tesla.

I wouldn't want to put it through some sharp bends. Other than that, it seems fine and is certainly is more stylish than anything modern on the market, where you can't even distinguish an SUV between a dozen different manufacturers. They all look alike, they all copy and paste, no more true designers with fresh ideas are involved.

If you have a small dog, you can put it in the back and have him hang out the side window. If you have a large dog, you can open the roof panel and have him look over the whole car. Wind in his fur and ears flapping.

I think that if I took it to a supermarket and came back with several bags of groceries, I might mistake the boot for the hood.

From a conceptual point of view, this can only be a rear engine model and rear wheel drive.

A motortrike with a canopy? How adorable! If there’s room for myself and my emotional support great dane, sure i’ll have one. Otherwise i need two. I can teach a dog to drive and turn the second into a trailer. So my doggo can drive me around! Something tells me that i wouldn’t get much done and we’d end up at the park or running down squirrels all day. Ell oh ell!

I don't know if I'm responsible enough to drive that car. It would be so easy to give it up on 2 wheels and if it had 4 wheels, it would still be easy to get it up on 2 wheels or you'd have a better slide with it anyway, but then you'd have to put more powerful motor into it. But it would be fun

It had no reverse gear and you got in and out by opening the entire front of the car.

Its said people starved to death in them after driving into their garage right up to the back wall and couldn't get out...

If anything, I would want an original BMW/Isetta, the four wheeled version. They are called "the snogging bowl" here. I remember, an employee at our school had one. :-)

Problem that batteries are heavy and an electric cars need more massive suspension, undercarriage, breaks and wheels. I don't think such small cars like BMW Iseta or those old Fiats are doable with electric drive because of battery mass.

They are fine if you live in a 15 minute SMART city. But it's as useful as a golf cart.
I wouldn't own one because I like to travel on occasion, which means packing luggage, going long distances, and driving on highways.
