The writing says change, but it has nothing to do with intelligence. Humans are simply good at recognising words even if the letters aren't in the right order or are replaced by numbers/symbols.

Our mind is good at filling in blanks or letters (in this case numbers) that are close enough. But it only works when you know all the words and/or if you have a good command of English as a non-native speaker.
