I do so extremely rarely with intent to be mean.
On those rare occasions, it's in response to what I had probably perceived as a verbal attack against me by another person.
Forgive me, I'm human.

I think that I'll do the 'Devil's Advocate' bit sometimes just to elicit further conversation, or in going for a laugh, but not to intentionally be a jerk.
It's not always received as I intend, though.
