What do you think about people who omit the truth?

I honestly can't stand them. They are just as bad as liars. I mean they technically are liars.

Just be straight up. I'm capable of handling the truth. Don't go around lying by omission. It's cowardice.

I think the truth is the only way to go because if they lie to save your feelings and then you find out about it then they're hurting you twice

Like they say the truth will set you free if you allow it to but if they tell you the truth you have to accept it and if they lie to you it's not going to hurt you I think is bad or maybe that's what you're thinking I don't know but the truth does set you free I would rather be told the truth any days and tell me something I want to hear just to make me feel better because truth always comes out and that's why everybody gets so angry that's why I would be angry but I would also know that the person is lying to me in the beginning anyway I hate it when somebody tells me what I want to hear instead of the truth because all they're doing is dragging things on instead of just simple and done with they're making me feel different emotions instead of just cut dry I'd rather feel that I'd rather take that than to believe something else that's not real anyway

Omitting information that someone does not NEED to know is not lying. If the information could emotionally damage or hurt them and is not directly related to them, it's none of their business.

There is private information that everyone doesn't need to know. I omit such information unless it is absolutely necessary in the context and with the person I'm dealing with.

Absolute honesty can be brutal and there is no need to impose brutality. Kindness and circumspection are far more important.

Omg… especially when the omission is intentional. It’s like telling just enough truth to avoid being called a liar, but not enough to actually be honest. And that’s where trust starts to break.

If anything I’m too honest , that’s commonly how those know me would refer to me in the truth telling polls.

That being said , I would say that if what is being omitted is done purposely then yes but there are clearly occasions where omission isn’t like not volunteering irrelevant data , or keeping personal data private or setting boundaries..”I’d rather not get into that “ type of scenario

We are not obligated to tell everyone everything. Memory can play a part , or simply not realizing something is relevant or on topic , or a miscomprehension. That’s why we have to include “deliberately” in the context of a lie by omission.

"Always tell the truth but the truth is not always told."

I have no problem with people leaving things out, omitting things, unless they are intentionally trying to be misleading.

That's what my manager did about a situation that involved me. I found out the whole truth from someone else. She doesn't know that I know the whole truth. If I told her, the person who told me would get in trouble (long story there). At any rate, I barely speak to her. If I wish to remain professional and not blow up on her, I have to put some distance between us.

People prefer to lie so they avoid confrontation and displeasing situations or so they don't have to bare the consequences of their actions. Some call it cowardice, some dishonesty and some hide behind the veil of protecting others from an uncomfortable truth and inflate their ego's while they're at it. It's not fun but humans have their strengths and flaws. Lying is one of those flaws.

Hate that behavior. Especially when done by people who claim to care. It only proves that they don't care. If you have to hide it, you know you're doing wrong. They're not protecting you, but only their own face, feelings or image.

I learned about the lie of omission about 30 years ago.

Whenever I think that all of the beans have not been spilled, I ask them "What about the lie of omission? Are you hiding something from me?

Everyone lies to some degree. Being truly honest is exceptional. Sadly, most people beautify their past and present, which in a sense is lying. As individuals, we can only strive to be true to ourselves, no matter what others do.

Being honest is very hard because a lot of the time it gets you in trouble. People usually go for the path of least resistance. And honesty is a skill you build over a lifetime.
