Why can't people except the truth?

Countless of times I've seen both parts of a story and I've told each person where they are wrong in the situation, but people are so blocked on their emotions that they continue to think they are right and in my opinion if people set their emotions aside and throw away their ego this world would be a lot better then it is, maybe not the best, but I can guarantee it society would be doing a lot better, but humans love their ego for some reason. But the point of this question is I would love to see peoples mindset cause I've seen a lot of toxic people, toxic situations on here so I just really wanna hear what anyone has to say about this question.

Mainly because it's like life and death from a comic I seen. Went like this.

Life: Death... why do many not like you as much as they like me?
Death: Because you are a beautiful lie. As I... am the painful truth.

Painful truth. No one wants to hear the truth. The truth is like... hold a knife. (IN A WAY, JUST LEMME SAY IT FFS) You hold it by the handle, you can use it properly and you won't get cut. You hold it by the blade... well you get cut and it hurts. (terrible analogy but maybe I'm wording it wrong)

So yeah, people rather be lied to than told the truth. More than anything

It's sad, but many people can't accept the truth.

I'd say it's ego and immaturity mostly. Some people can’t handle the truth, because, in some situations, it would require them to change themselves a bit, but their ego doesn't let them. In their mind, their opinion or belief is relevant and true while everything else is wrong. Pride, stubbornness and closed-mindedness play a role too.

This is exactly what people do. You will encounter it regularly and should get use to it. Lawyers do quite well…. if you like this kind of thing.

Because they're very selfish and manipulative. They're the ones who encourage lies because they are the real culprits and don't wanna be exposed.

Why won't they accept the truth if they're really right? Because it will make them weak and they will lose control over other's minds.

There's a nice experiment (sorry can't find the paper) where people are given a pile of evidence to sort through. The instructions are divide it into 2 groups strong evidence and weak evidence e. g a double blind ten year clinical trial goes in one box while a comment on GAG goes in the other.

Virtually every one ignores the instructions and splits into I agree, I disagree.
