In the US, are conflicts between people mostly about money or sex?

I ask because I was just reading an article about fender guitars sending a cease and desist letter to other guitar makers demanding that they stop making a guitar body in a specific shape that fender claims they own. I wondered how a company could make such a ludicrous claim and then I realized that like almost everything else, it's about money. Absurd. Yet in the US this kind of thing is an accepted way of doing business which is also absurd. What do you think about that?

You have to watch out when you buy a high dollar guitar used, you could get a “Chibson” or a “Chender” (Chinese counterfeit Gibson or Fender ). Some of them are so good, the only way to tell is to take them apart.

If I were going to buy a guitar and spend some money on it, you can bet I would in fact be taking it apart and reassembling.

Once you spend over a few thousand, it’s best to let a reputable pro repair shop do the investigating. If they take it apart and fuck it up, they basically have to fix it for free and do it right. If you fuck it up, you’re going to be paying them to fix it anyways (depending on how bad you fuck it up.)

It's a very good point. I'm definitely not alive here, and I would actually really not take it apart other than maybe removing the strings. Possibly a few tuning machines. Other than that, I'm a complete amateur when it comes to guitars, so I will take your wise words to heart.

I remember one of the pickups went dead on my brother’s 1952 Fender double neck 8 string steel guitar. He said “I’m going to rewind this pickup” I told him to send it to the old pickup builder and save himself the hassle. He said he didn’t want to wait a month or two to mail it and for the old guy to get around to it. So we made a manual pickup winding machine out of my grandma’s old sewing machine and used double sided foam mounting tape to stick the pickup bobbin (the part the windings wrap around) to the wheel on the side of the sewing machine and he wound the pickup himself, using the footpedal for the sewing machine as the speed control. Now the wire for the pickup windings is about twice thick as a human hair and breaks with the slightest amount of tension, and you’re holding it by your hand and controlling the tension with your hand. Every time you fuck it up you have to start over because you can’t solder that wire. You have to have a machine to do it because we’re talking about 3000 to 8000 feet of wire just for one guitar pickup, it would take you a month to do one by hand with no machine. Now he snapped the wire off a few times, over and under wound it to the wrong resistance, etc and after about 3 days of yelling and cursing, he told me he should have sent it out to be done by a professional with the right equipment.

Sometimes you just have to try doing shit and be persuaded that you can't do it, or at least you can't do it easily or in a reasonable period of time before you let a pro do it...

and to get it now, I would have to have it shipped to Canada and then sent to me through some fright service or something like that all because this other company here in America has put a block on it all because it being too much like their product.

And you may ask, "What's the problem, the price difference isn't that bad?" And if it was just that, I'd be fine with that... take my money. But here is the thing, the American company (Bulletproof) refuses to just sell the damn latch hooks... they will only sell these hooks to verified purchasers of their and only their $600 plus product as well. They won't just sell the stupid latch hooks and make some money, they got to be that fucking greedy and petty about it.

I've talked to their customer service, and they're fucking dicks about it... like legit assholes. Meanwhile the customer service for the cheaper product is as nice as can be, but just can't do it due to the legal actions of the dicks here in America that won't just sell me the hooks by themselves like the other company will.

So how I feel... I'm pissed at the American company now. I will never buy anything from them ever just out of principal, and I'll figure out how to get this fucking fright service to Canada and then to me here in the States, which will probably end up costing more than the $60 for just the hooks, but a lot less than the $60 + $600 for a piece of extra equipment I already own. FUCK BULLETPROOF FITNESS!!! I mean I fucking hate them now.

Money is universal, sex is selective.

Like imagine it from heterosexual couple, they don’t have disputes isolated to their marriage or dating also outside the relationship.

Price of gas up, price of utilities up, boss docked your pay and wants you to work overtime, coworker won’t pay you back after borrowing money for the vending machine five days in a row, dispute about how should the bill be split amongst friends, etc.

Sex is selective because if you are only comfortable with one gender and one person at a time then there shouldn’t be much conflict. Money is everywhere and is used for every good and service out there, also social interaction.

Forgot about refunds / requesting refunds also is a form of conflict with money especially if the seller or person you did business with refuses to honor it. Also stores refusing to honor warranty.

A specific shape that doesn't affect the utility of the guitar may be trademarked. Trademarks don't expire. It would be misleading for another company to make a guitar that copied the shape of a Fender.

Yeah, they do, but politics, religion, and parking spaces are all very, very important. Maybe guitars and exercise equipment hooks, not so much.
