The 4th of July is right around the corner. I live in the most dangerous city in my State. I just heard a shotgun noise. How can I tell the difference?

What type of fireworks sound just like a shotgun blast? Does anyone know how I can tell the difference?

It was very close to my bedroom window in the parking lot.

I'm so afraid that one day a bullet is going to come right through my window. The famous gang, MS13 have a presence on the corner of the block that I live on.

Good question. Usually when I hear fireworks there is the telltale thunp of it leaving the tube when it is fired into the air and then there is a delay until you hear the firework explode.

I hear plenty of shotguns around where I live. It isn't from crime but for sport or hunting. That is just a straight up blast. Even if I didn't hear the firework leave the tube, the crackle after would be a dead giveaway.

A shotgun is typically a single sound while fireworks are a collection of rapid sound together. Aerial fireworks usually have a whistle sound as they go up through the air, before they explode with a bang

The sound that I heard was only one loud, deep sound. To me it sounded like a shotgun.

I have installed an app on my phone that shows me in real time all of the events and emergencies on a map, as well as I can hear the actual call from dispatchers reporting the emergencies to the emergency 🦺 responders.
When I looked at the map, I saw that there was a homicide in my neighborhood.

if it sounds like a shotgun then it probably is. Stay away from windows after the sun goes down.

It's different, you can tell if you are aware of a weapon sound, anyways, stay away from the window when you hear such sounds!

Unfortunately my bedroom window is just about 6 ft. away from my bed and the only other place I can go is the living room where my big patio sliding glass door is.

What's weird is that I had just woken up and turned on my bedroom light and it was about a minute after that that I heard the gunshot.

I have Crime Radar installed on my phone and I am notified of all of the emergency calls and I can listen to the emergency people talk to each other.

There's also a map that shows all of the emergencies close by to me. One said a homicide.🙄
