What has been your worst defeat?

You can't win them all is a familiar expression. Everyone loses at something. Everyone has been defeated. It can be a fight with the school yard bully or a state championship in your favorite sport. Or something else.

Defeated but not Beaten

I've been fortunate. I haven't had many bad defeats.

Maybe the worst is when I was laid off due to downsizing. It was weird in that three of us were laid off that later was determined to be a mistake.

Let me explain. Early in the morning, corporate demanded 10% downsizing by the end of the day. All of my group's managers were on vacation or out-of-town with customers, so who to lay off fell to our group's Director, who knew little about my group and it's people. So, he used whatever info he had... timesheets, specifically who was charging projects (billable to customers) and who was charging company overhead. Three of us (10% of our group) had just finished a successful project and were coordinating a company move to another site, which meant we were charging 100% of our time to overhead, and we were laid off that afternoon. When our managers found out, they tried to undo it, but it was too late.

Interestingly, the guy that laid me off hired me back 3 years later. He was more nervous at my interview than I was.

Between being a bit charmed and refusing to be a sore loser, i don’t really see my failures in that way. I win, or i learn. Either way i win. Ell oh ell!
It’s cheesy but it’s true.
That said, i am an alcoholic. That’s been my greatest struggle thus far in life, and it’s been the source of a few fairly major “losses”. All deserved, mind you. I was bitter in the beginning, but eventually i learned that i had to take responsibility for the sh*tty choices i was making. I’m a better man for it now.

When I was the fastest person in my grade! I beat all the boys and girls. Then, around 6th grade, during a class competition, I started losing to the boys lol I still don't know if I got slower or they got faster, because we were never timed, it was just who crossed the "finish" line first. I accept it now but back then I was actually pissed!

This is exactly why guys should not compete in women's; sports.

I lost at life as a whole, despite constantly trying to do my best. I'm a giant loser and should probably be filtered out the genepool by natural selection and a violent death.

Whoever was the first to suggest it's bullies that grow up to be losers needs mouth stitched shut. Karma isn't real. If I have a son I'm raising him to be a bully.

I’ve never lost. I just had a draw in the seventh grade at a schoolyard fight it lasted about 10 minutes long fight I was skinny. The other guy was much heavier two years later I would’ve killed him in a wrestling, but he went to another school, but he sucked at what he did. on his wrestling team because he was losing against our light heavyweight and I could kill my light heavyweight on the wrestling team I was middleweight wrestling 160 ninth grade

I had those years and feelings… till I decided to go against the society and flipped it to positive.

My kids at a young age that it’s me against the society to raise them to succeed. Failing is not an option when we can make changes.
