I don’t know, I haven’t talked to any dead people and want to keep it that way. I have seen some ghosts, though. There was a ghost at my old house, at least 4 or 5 people saw it. I remember sitting in my living room and one of my friends kept looking towards the hallway, looking very confused and a bit concerned. I was facing the other way, and noticed his uneasy look. I asked him what he was looking at and he said he didn’t know and looked even more disturbed. I then asked if he saw something move in the hallway and he looked scared and said yes and asked “what is that?" I laughed and told him not to worry about the house ghost. I saw it many times, my brother saw it many times, too. It was only about 4 feet tall so I thought it was the ghost of a child, and tried to not scare it or drive it out. Then one day I was telling my friend about the ghost and he said "bullshit, there’s no ghost here” and saw it right after that. He ran into the hallway where it always was and yelled “get the fuck out of here you goddamned motherfucker!” I ran over there and shoved him out of the hallway so hard he came off the ground and landed a few feet away and yelled back at him. I told him to leave it alone because we had to live there. I never saw it again. I want to say that was around 2012 when I lived in a 100 year old house in Long Beach. I have some other stories about ghosts that cannot be explained by science or attributed to drugs haha
I'll accept the brain fades away over a few minutes but not the idea that consciousness lasts. Without preservation brains liquiify very quickly, couple of days they're just green goo and it's hard to believe any neural connections are still working.
It would be horrific to think you retain any form of consciousness. Lying helpless in your own corpse as it decomposes or burns.
When you die, my friend, your body shuts down Along with your brain And your soul, rises out of your body. And you live again instantly if you’re saved with the Lord Jesus Christ
All evidence indicates that consciousness is an emergent phenomenon of the brain. It no more survives our death than the data in volatile memory survives shutdown.
No, it's not all evidence because there are all these near-death experiences that people have that are extremely difficult to account for otherwise.
No, they aren't difficult to account for -- all the "NDE" stories merely attach meaning to the experience of brain death. We have dreams of flying or levitating but that doesn't mean our consciousness was detached from our body.
People also, in some way, report witnessing events that they could not possibly have witnessed, given the fact that they were lying on a bed, completely immobile. Things that happened in other realms, for instance.
Do you think there's a grand conspiracy to ignore these claims? They aren't being studied because they aren't real. by the way, what to you mean by "in other realms?"
They actually are being studied. How the word "realms" got in there, but it's not accurate. What I meant to say is "other locations."
Studied? By whom? Are there peer-reviewed publications? Or is this a world-wide scientific conspiracy to suppress the data? Do you have a reference to a site that has data instead of anecdotes? We're not in the general habit of asking people who have been resuscitated "What did you see?" All we hear are anecdotes that someone saw something they couldn't have, but no careful documentation.
Look at the link I provided, and then we can talk about it.
Same as it has been for the past 60 years. USA Today is not a serious source.
“Contemporary science has a pretty good idea of what’s going on with these experiences, but doesn’t address the why,” he said. “The ‘why’ is a matter of faith.”
I think consciousness is situational. Are you conscious when you're asleep? It doesn't seem so.
No way to know, no one has really comeback from it.
In my belief system it doesn't 😋 🙏🏻🤲🏻
I never believed so
