What is the most unexpected or memorable thing that happened to you this year?

For me, it happened a few months ago. I stopped at a little coffee shop one morning, mostly because I was running late and needed caffeine. While I was waiting, an older gentleman standing behind me suddenly tapped me on the shoulder and said, “You look exactly like my brother.”

We started laughing about it, and somehow that turned into a 20-minute conversation about his family, his travels, and some pretty funny stories from his younger days. Before I left, he shook my hand and told me, “I’m glad I mistook you for someone else today.”

It was such a random little encounter, but I walked out of there in a better mood than I had been in all week. Funny how a completely ordinary morning can turn into a memory you actually keep.

In August, my wife and I took a 9 day cruise to Alaska. I am from Florida, and the contrast was unforgetable.

I happened to be looking outside during a thunderstorm in July and saw lightning hit a tree and it fell over and it crushed two cars. The tree was like 40-50 feet tall.

Met Jordan Rudess in a coffee shop during the Dream Theater Australian tour last February. We talked about keyboards for over 30 minutes.
