I'm in the middle of being scammed right now. I got a message through LinkedIn from a friend giving me a lead to a great job. I started getting suspicious when the job was too good to be true and my qualifications were a perfect fit. It turns out that my friend's LinkedIn was hacked and it was the hackers not my friend that was messaging.

The hackers are still messaging believing I am still unaware of the truth. I wonder what they hope to gain and what I should do. Ideas?

I was sent a DM on GaG and that's how it started.
It started out just to be a very nice conversation and he wrote me very nice long messages. Now I know his messages we written with the help of AI.

After 2 days of messaging he said that this website wasn't safe and for me to us to message each other on website Telegram. So that's what we did.

He love bombed me right away and he said that he was very happy he met me.

He was only 45 so I asked him if he would like to be like a son to me since he told me that his mom died right after giving birth to him (which was a lie it turns out), he replied that he wanted me to be his girlfriend.😳

As the weeks passed, he said that he wanted to leave the United Nations and it wasn't safe where he was in Israel.

He applied for vacation and then said that he had to pay 40% $16,000 which he asked me for. I didn't have that much money. But he was convinced that I did and kept asking me to it

He would say things like I am the only person he can ask to help him to leave there and repeatedly emphasized that if I cared or loved him like he loved me that I would pay the $16,000 for his part of the airfare.

I never sent it to him.

I read on the internet all about the scam he was trying to pull on me.

He used a fake name Eric and I put the last name he was using and all of the info. he told me and it came back 100% that it was a well known scam.

The picture that he had with his username on GaG wasn't even his real picture. They steal pictures of regular guys who are very good looking just like he did here on GaG. Lots of women were following him. So he probably sent a DM to them and continued to scam them like he was doing to me.

I just never fell for his sad story and didn't send him money 🤑

Not yet, but they are trying. I keep getting notices from the Geek Squad, or others, thanking me for my subscription, and if wasn't me call the customer care number they include. But when I look at charges made to my credit card, there are none from The Geek Squad, so it is all an attempt at getting me to call that number. Anyone fall for one of these type scams?

I get a ton of those too. My guess is that occasionally they send a message to someone who actually has a subscription. To them the message looks more legitimate. They click the link and send their credit card information.

Damn. Tell them you got the job and it was exactly as described.

I've had make transactions with my credit card before. I called the bank, but they said I have to call "fraud", and it's a lengthy process, and it wasn't much, so I just said, "fuck it." Aside from that, I've mainly been scammed abroad, with things like being overcharged by fake taxis, even real taxis, and getting overcharged at shops and restaurants. Or not being given my change/less food. And I got scammed at the exchange counter at San Francisco airport. She only gave me HALF the value. And another time at a pawn shop. I paid $30 for a vintage coin set, then found the same set online for $7

There was also stuff like tours and accommodations not being as described.

Yeah, I could tell the scammers I already have a job. They're scammers. It isn't about the job it's about THEM getting something from me.

It's trivial to reverse fraudulant credit card charges. I used to have to call. It took just a few minutes. Now, it takes seconds on their website.

Ah it isn't a scam if you pay $30 for something that's worth $7. Next time do your homework before you throw $23 in the trash.

Many years ago a card skimmer got me while filling the tank in Seattle. By the time I went in to pay, he had drained my account.
