Oddly no, even if it's a very rare name like mine. One of my teachers in middle school said whenever she traveled, she would always find a payphone and flip through the phone book, and said if she saw someone with her last name she'd phone them, 'cuz they were probably related, 'cuz her name is so rare. But even MY last name I would consider very rare, yet there are quite a few other people with it, that has far as we know, we aren't related too, so I don't know how that's possible.

I guess the keyword here is "always", so I the answer is NO. I don't even think MAJOITY of the time, they're related.

yes in the sense that "all humans are related". but family trees can grow so far appart over time, that even their genes turn out to be like a mix of random strangers. so i'll say: not always. especially when you consider that in some historical countries surnames originate from professions, not from families. like "smith" is the best example for it. there's not one "smith" there were many. so many absolutely unrelated people have that name and there are many like it.

No, not necessarily. A surname can come from a shared ancestor, but it can also arise independently in different families, especially with common surnames. Migration, adoption, marriage, name changes, and historical naming traditions can also create the same surname among unrelated people.

So sharing a surname is a clue, not proof of a family connection. A family tree or records would be needed to establish the relationship.

No not always. Some people share a common name, such as Jones, or Patel, and there are so many hundreds of thousands of people with those names that being closely related is almost impossible. You may have some genetic allelles as is found on Finding Your Roots, but that only means you share a distant relative...
