Could you date someone who had the same first name as one of your parents or siblings?

Lets say you are attracted to someone and they ask you out on a date, however they have the first name as either of your parents or one of your siblings. could you still date them?

Oh my god NEVER! I have a friend back home her brother has the same name as her boyfriend! The hilarity and creepyness that ensued was just horrible and funny at the same time! she would me like:
Her: ”Omg I was blowing Paul last night, and he came so much, I thought I would throw-up, seriously what should I do, you guys?”
Answer from everyone: “ Stop sucking your brother’s dick!”

or Her:” Oh wow, Paul kissed me goodnight last night, it was the most tender, loving, but still passionate kiss I think I’ve ever had”
Someone:” Wow, MY brother usually just opens my bedroom door and farts, then says something like, sleep through that… you definitely have the more romantic brother!”

I had a “boyfriend” with the shortened version of my brother’s name. My brother always went by his full name. It was still weird.
I say “boyfriend” because it was middle school or something and we just liked each other and sat next to each other at lunch.

Haha I dated a girl for like 3 years who had the same name as a parent.

It seems like it should be weird. When I read this, the first thing I thought was: "That would be so weird!" immediately followed by: "wait a minute... I've done that".

It was a long time ago, but I honestly don't remember any confusion or weirdness. I think maybe it was just easy to tell from context which (_____) people were talking about.

Never used my parents first names, at times I forget them (names not parents), I don’t even know their middle names).

An even more weird one for you, when I was dating my ex wife, she used to get mistaken for my sister, something I never realised until at one time they had very similar hair cuts and colours.

I find it worse dating someone with same name as someone else you had a relationship with.

No, I wouldn't date them. Dating someone who has the same first name as one of my parents would mean that I was dating a Portuguese speaker or someone of Portuguese descent. And that would be a nightmare! So no, thanks.

I don't see it as any sort of problem. My mother's name is not very common, so I've encountered few women with that same name.

As others have said, were it too occur, most people have pet names for their significant others.
