Here's a funny British joke, but I'm not convinced Americans or 2nd language speakers will get it. This isn't about is it funny but whether humour travels.
A Glaswegian lad brings his girlfriend home and says, "This is Amanda."
His father jumps up and shouts, "A fucking what?"
So if your not British, do you get it?

Honestly no, I did not grasp the joke. But then I knew it had to do with litteral writing down a way to pronounce: "This is A Man Da". I had to check other answers to grasp the possible interpretation in the described context. On the practical side, maybe the son pronounced the name Amanda with some particular accent, didn't he? ;0)
I don’t immediately get it, but I’m assuming in a Glaswegian accent, that would phonetically translate to “This is a man, dad.”
Otherwise, I’m out, haha
Yep, I get it. There is a (actually Canadian) TV series that uses that joke by referring to certain male characters as "Amanda".
In that use, they are trying to say the character is "a man, duh".
No I don't, and I actually speak British English... but Glasgow is in Scotland, not in England, so it's probably some local expression.
I think humour can be understood differently depending on where someone comes from and how familiar they are with the language and culture. British humour often uses sarcasm, irony, and wordplay, so some jokes might take a little explaining. But good humour can cross cultural boundaries, too! 😄 I'd be curious to see the joke and find out whether I get it.
I get it but not hilarious. More like cringy.
I've spent way too much time in the UK. I get the joke. 😉
Tell us
@KostasKouvalis It's @purplepoppy joke. She should explain it.
I don't know, I can only guess a manda is something vulgar in the UK, or that the joke is poking fun at the fact that no one can understand a fucking word that comes out of Glosgow people's mouths
Scotland and Wales sounds a fun place to go, but I won't take a female called Amanda, and I won't understand their jokes lol.
I get it. I knew the Irish use da’, and i assumed Scots did too. I didn’t know that it extended to the Welsh as well.
It doesn't da would mean good in welsh but it means dad in a Scottish accent. Of course the words "mam and dad" are both of welsh origin
close... but yeah
His father is highly homophobic and belongs behind bars if it's UK and he isn't a Muslim.
lol what the fuck. It's a joke not your dad's dick. don't take it so hard.
Did you get my joke?
It sounds like "This is a man, Dad" = his girlfriend is male.
I see lol 🙂
I can see where the guy would be funny, jumping up, saying that
The lad 🤣
You surely have lots of funny words in England poppy poppins
I don't get it, is there something wrong in Amanda's name? 😁
You mean "Its a Scottish accent joke"
It's kinda funny I did the get the joke. It's a man da
The dad's response seems a little tame for a Glaswegian...
Simples...
If she is an American girl, they don't like Americans so yes---BIAS DAD.
Haha yes, I get it
This is A Man?
Yup, I get it.
Aye, just equate da with pa.
Actually that is pretty funny.
It's better with Irish accent
An Irishman walks out of a bar...
Yep,
A man dah
🤷♂️
I'm not British but that was funny!
I smiled it is funny
Yes, I get it.
