Are they better than cars? More customizable? Just more fun to ride?
What's the appeal of motorcycles?
Are they better than cars? More customizable? Just more fun to ride?
A possible explanation:
Unlike a car where you are encased in a cab to protect you the motorcycle doesn't, this as a bit of a danger element which a lot of thrill seekers want. Also because you are not in the cab of a vehicle there isn't much to dull your senses. You can feel the wind rushing at you as you accelerate, if you look down there's pavement not the floor of a cab, if you look forward everything is rushing by you also giving that rush that comes with the speed of a vehicle. Generally this makes them more fun to ride.
In terms of safety a car is much better than a motorcycle since there are more safety mechanism's installed like seat belt's, airbags. Cars also have more metal protecting the passengers, increasing survival odds. Motorcycles generally do not have seat belts to prevent being thrown from them and require balance to ride properly and also lack material around the passenger in case of collision. Riding a motorcycle in the winter is a bad idea, throw the balance off even a little by hitting an ice patch and the bike can go right off the road and you with it. It's equally a bad idea to ride a motorcycle in the rain since the balance issue comes right back. Rubber and water do not mix very well in all circumstances. Cars being four wheeled also have more contact with the ground and get better traction in those conditions. Unfortunately I cannot say anything on the customization of a motorcycle VS a car.
Motorcycles however being small and thinner in size means they are able to go places a car can't due to it's width. The U.S. Military has been using motorcycles since WW2 for scouting or transportation of small objects like sensitive documents, It's a fast vehicle and is capable of going off road. It's size also makes it easier to store more of them in one area vs a full sized car. Motorcycles however are not ideal for transporting multiple people, even if you equip it with a sidecar or ride double that's sill only 2 maybe 3 people vs 5. That's also not including vans which can carry more people than an average car
In terms of appearance, the motorcycle is often seen as a symbol of freedom, strength and sex appeal. For women it may have something to do with attracting men with the curves of the female body combined with the curves of some motorcycle designs. The appeal with riding motorcycles may stem from the days of the wild west where the horse was the mode of transportation. In a way the motorcycle is the mechanical, modern equivalent to being and cowboy on horseback from times past. The protective clothing, such as the leather biker jacket is also popular with a lot of people and not only for it's looks. And it goes with look of riding a motorcycle.
Sorry for the long winded rant, take this with a grain of salt, I hope it helps a little. :)
I love riding mine for that feel of freedom. Totally different feeling in a car. I have a Harley not a crotch rocket. It's a very comfortable ride for long distances. The wind in your face and the looks you get from people is priceless. A few like yourself don't seem to care, and will not even look. That's all good... The BEST answer I got from this gorgeous girl I give rides to one day was AWESOME! I asked her why did she like riding on my bike so much (every time I see her she BEGS me to take her for a ride) she said, "I get to feel some REAL power between my legs" looking at her boyfriend with a smirk as she walked past him.. I was on the floor laughing my ass off!
Fun to ride and good gas milage. I don't find them to be extremely risky, unless you choose to ride in a risky way. I do think that adrenaline junkies tend to ride motorcycles the same way that they tend to get fast cars (and drive them fast). But riding them with a sensible person isn't that edgy ... automobiles, in general, tend to be dangerous.
I didn't get it wither tbh but then I rode one with my friend and it's exhilerating. Kinda like that thrill when you first learn to ride a bike expcept 100 times better. But I was in Delphi on my one and only ride lol so there are lots of hills which made it super exciting I don't know how great it is on flat terrain. :/
They're fun. They're edgy. They're risk-taking.
If you're someone that likes the adventures of life, a motorcycle will give you that high.

They're an absolute blast to ride. They're lighter, faster, and just more "free" feeling than being in a cage (car). Shifting through the gears while you're ripping the throttle is fun, cornering is like every motorcyclist's wet dream, and just the sound coming from them is amazing to hear. Plus it's an acceptable way to dress all awesome like a storm trooper wearing a helmet, jacket, gloves, riding pants, riding boots, etc...
They're definitely customizable, maybe less so than cars but still you can make them your own. I've had both fun, project cars in the past as well as a motorcycle right now and I'd have to say the bike tops the cars by a bit. I still like certain cars, but I think now that I've gotten into bikes I'm not looking back :D
its a visceral experience. it's far more tactile. it's really all about sensory appeal. for some it's the wind in their face and the open road ahead of them. for others it's the feeling of throwing yourself from side to side as you lean the bike through an S-curve. it's all about sensory inputs.
I find driving my truck much more enjoyable, it has A/C a pretty good stereo, I can drive it over 500 miles a day without it making my balls hurt. And its a chick magnet, I can haul more than a few small objects and I won't die if I hit some loose gravel going a little too fast. The only downside is my truck has a hemi so it drinks gas, but its totally worth the comfortability. I've rode a bike before, its not for me, definitely want something that can be used more than for one use.
I would imagine they're more fun.
There are some safety issues. To put it mildly.
One of my coworkers skydives, bungee jumps, scuba dives, etc. And he says straight up 'the most dangerous thing I do is ride a motorcycle. Its a really stupid thing to do'.
In a recent year, there were 4000 motorcycle fatalities in the u.s. There are about 4 million registered motorcycles in the u.s. So every year, one in 1000 motorcycle owners dies.
most of those are attributed to lack of proper safety gear. IMO motorcycle fatalities that occur among people too dumb to wear a helmet shouldn't be counted. But whatever. Anyway... my father was a thrill seeker in his younger days. surfer, skier, and of course, motorcyclist. and he said based on his personal experiences that skiing is much more dangerous. it's the only one that left him with any permanent injury (pins in shoulders as a result of a skiing accident)
I ride a "crotch rocket". link
Riding is as close an experience as you can have to the excitement of sex. It provides tremendous exhilaration and stimulation of all of the senses. A motorcycle is as close to a living creature as technology creates (other those silly sex dolls). Close behind is riding a horse.
a STOCK zx-14r will go from sitting still to a hundred mph in five seconds. the feeling you get when you're exposed to everything around you going that incredibly fast is the biggest rush you can get unless you're an f-22 pilot. its incredible...
its just a sexy ride. one of the sexiest rides ever. just looking at one, getting on one or seeing a guy with a leather jacket on one.. gets me fired up. they are plain just sexy...PERIOD.
Imo it's the thrill-seeking element. You're not enclosed in a cab, and motorcycles because they're lighter, accelerate A LOT faster than cars do.
Being "exposed" to the elements moving that fast...is a rush! :)
They get much better gas mileage...but I've never been on one so I don't know the draw other than that.
I think its the thrill and adrenaline
They are a lot more dangerous to ride
The only reason I'd get one is for the adrenaline rush and to cut traffic =P
Better gas mileage and fun to drive. If they were a little safer to drive I'd buy one.
they're fun and just look so freaken cool. I think that it should be illegal for girls to ride them bec I've almost crashed a few times due to this
They are fun to ride on ... and they make guys wear leather jackets...
You simply can't compare motorcycles with cars.
Motorcycle is the way of life!
Well it takes less gas to fuel it, almost no traffic and it's fun to ride it
A big throbbing powerful entity between your legs.. yeah, what's not to like?
Guys like that?
Because they go really fast and they get like 70 miles to the gallon or something like that
Because there fun, not to mention the torque you feel as soon as you grip the handle.
Its a crotch rocket. Haha
lol
So I have heard
For guys it's like an extension to penis. For girls its like " heeeeeelp I can't stay balanced :0"!
For me, NONE!
I don't like it at all.
