If a girl says she "gets bored of things easily", is this a red flag towards pursuing a relationship with her?

I happened to randomly think about this.

If a girl says that she gets bored easily with things and "always wants something new" with things such as food, personal style, circles of friends/acquaintances, hangout spots, etc...

...

...

...does that mean that odds of her being "relationship material" are lower?

Logically thinking about it, if she gets bored of the above things, she can just as easily get bored of THE GUY, breakup, then pursue someone new because "she got bored".

Do you know anyone (guy or girl) that is the type to "get bored of things easily"? Are you like that at all? Why do you think people (or your) are like this?

I'm easily bored with things, but don't have any problem being in a long-term monogamous relationship, as long as he understands that I'm kind of ADD. My last long-term boyfriend understood and we just didn't really get into any kind of a rut. We'd just shake things up a little, go on random adventures, and try not to sit at home watching the same shows all day. And when I got distracted he just let it go. (For example he'd be really into his football game, I'd be bored and wander off and go visit other people. Then when I'd come back for a while, then repeat.)

The question really is how everyone handles that kind of personality. If she feels like going on some kind of spontaneous adventure, how would you handle 'breaking the schedule'? When she gets distracted by shiny things or wanders off at the mall, can you laugh it off? Can she? (If she can't understand other people getting annoyed by her oddness, then she'll expect you to always bend over backwards for her ie RUN AWAY)

I'm like this girl that you're referring to. I get bored of things easily, and thankfully I am very aware of it. As such, I take extra care when entering a relationship... I take my time, and make sure that the guy is an "exception" before I'll commit. Where feelings are concerned, I need to be careful. I know that, so I do everything I can that being bored with my relationship doesn't make the list. I'm not sure why I'm like that. Maybe I'm a bit ADD. I have so much going on around me, that I struggle to focus on just one. But if I start spending time with you, and you become a fundamental part of my daily routine, at that point, you've passed the "boredom" test and your feelings are generally safe with me (unless something unforeseeable changes in our relationship, of course).

I think it depends. She could be talking about relationships and she could also not be. Most people aren't easily bored of everything.

For example, I get bored of entertainment very easily. I have over 800 songs on my MP3 but I only listen to about 50 of them because I don't like the rest anymore. I will never watch a movie or viral video or read a book more than twice. Because of this, I consider myself to get bored very easily.

On the other hand, I could eat chicken sandwiches on a daily basis if I had to, and I am perfectly capable of holding down a long term relationship.

It depends on the context and what she means.

it does sound like a red flag. people who get 'bored" easily need shake up, change, something new. that applies to all facets of life. They are probably the person that loves a band and won't stop blaring their music and then one day they're playing something completely different and do go back. they'll treat everything in their life that way and it doesn't mean something is wrong with the object of their temporary affection it just means that they are like a rolling stone...they gather no moss

that said some people like the idea of being a chameleon and aren't necessarily so. If you like this girl a lot try to see if she practices what she preaches. if she suddenly stops like a certain music, restaurant, friend, or normal Friday/Saturday night activity. maybe she likes the idea of being in constant evolution but isn't really so

But in terms of a relationship I'd say stay away or tread very carefully

I'd definitely want to know more about what she means in saying she gets bored easily. I think that until I found out more, I'd be tempted to see her as a riskier person to open up to.

In my experience, this is usually a big red flag. If someone gets bored easily it means that they constantly crave novelty, and while in some cases that may only apply to material things or experiences rather than people, even in that sense, over a long period of time it can be very difficult to sustain and can put a lot of pressure on a relationship. Most of the people I've met who fall into this category seem to have some deeper dissatisfaction and restlessness that they're trying to quell; they can never be happy with what they've got.

Assuming you met someone in your 30s, fell in love, got married and started a family then you're realistically going to be hoping to be together for 40 years or more. Unless you're incredibly wealthy, sustaining a constant need for new things and experiences for several decades is going to be impossible. Even if you are very wealthy, it could still be draining.

Having said that, if they're more just easily distracted and/or tend to cycle through a limited group of things, experiences or people over and over again, that's not necessarily a bad thing at all as long as you're within (and always remain the priority in) that group.

I am easily bored of things- not people.  But this applies more to hobbies that.  I start a million projects with this zealous energy that fizzles half way through.  I suppose the excitement for me is in figuring out how to do something, once I feel I got it...I don't care to complete it.  I like to challenge myself and see what my brain and I are capable of.  I try to learn how to do everything for the sake of learning it I guess.  However, I value my true friends and actual need stability and someone grounded around me to level out my spontaneous nature.
