What does constant "mm hmmm" means from a girl?

So I have been talking to this girl for about a month and we seem to get along great. SHe smiles a lot, giggles, teases me and stuff although recently when I talk to her she keeps making this kinda coy "mmm hmmm" sounds while trying to hold back a smile. Whenever I'm being silly or joking around she keeps doing it but what does it exactly mean? I tell her that she should just use her words because they are lovely and she just goes "mmm hmmm" again and won't tell me why, am I annoying her or something?

Umm well the only time I do the mm mm is when I'm really bothered by something,usually its something on my mind that I'm worried about,and so even when I'm out around people I am still thinking about it and am not focused on what others are saying to me so I just go with the mm mmm as a response to show I am listening lol...but in general I am always bothered so maybe your jokes are a bit too harsh or something,or maybe she's bothered for some other reason..but just like blackforesttreat said,sometimes I also use it when I can't find anything to say to a guy I feel something for...

I do this when I want to keep flirting with the guy but I can't think of anything intelligent or amusing to say! I don't want to get it wrong so I go for the neutral, 'mmhmm'. I don't think you're annoying her.

She's teasing you and daring you to stop her. A playful wrestling match should do the trick. Or maybe a pillow fight.

Think of it like a girl giggling and running away expecting you to chase her (and catch her). When you catch her you'd better kiss her. You don't want to disappoint her after all.
