How come guys like sweet, girly, cute, feminine things about girls?

I have always wondered this. A lot of guys are usually somewhat manly, they like tough stuff, and sports, and acting macho, and they admire strong people etc.

So what makes them like the girlie stuff about girls? They love when girls wear dresses and put flowers in their hair and act all pretty and cutesy. Then guys will act all sweet to the girls they like.

Guys, how does this work?

I realize not all guys are like this, but I always wonder what it's like for the ones that are.

Interesting question.

I think it is very hard to find the origin of when gender roles or gender attributes started. Was it genes or nurture.. etc.. but as a guy . my relationship with other guys are competitive . And as a straight guy... I am not gonna pick one of them and get him to live with me for life and get him pregnant! I am sexually attracted to females and it will be a girl that will share my intimate and inside world inside my home. I need someone to complement me and not to compete with me at home. So I need someone with different attributes.. someone that doesn't remind me of male attributes.

Based on the above.. the more feminine attributes I find , the more I get attracted to.. I want to come home to softness , beauty, smiles, non violent, etc.. basically things that are opposite to the men that I compete with for power and resources.

The more a girl acquires manly attributes, the more she is shifting from this comfort life companion towards more of a competitor.

The example above is very simplified of-course. Because for men it isn't black or white.. we come in shades of grey and we look for women who have shades of grey as well.

It is the same reason why girls are attracted to confidence in men . While for men , this isn't as big of an issue when looking for girls. Why females would want someone who is strong, competitive, assertive, bold.. ? I think it is simply that women expect men .. even at this day and age.. to assume a certain gender role and responsibility.. to lead ...

I know women who are outgoing, assertive and bold and still are looking for even more of these characters in men ..

If women feel that this is stereotyping of women , ( and it very well could be ) then society needs to change how men are raised.. mothers need to teach their sons that wearing pink is OK and that girls have equal masculine characteristics .

To summarise it for you , men will occupy any space that women would let them occupy. That is why men get confused about feminism , because men regard the world as a battle and the strongest win. Rights are not granted, they are fought for and won. Women are the one that can define the relationship structure these days.. men have been more or less the leaders through the whole history except for the last 50 years or so ... where women rights and feminism began to surface.. now it is up to a woman to define her identity.. are you a bold and brazen girl? are youa tom boy? are you a sweet and shy girl? etc etc .. and based on that you will attract the shade of grey that complements you .

For me personally I can't tolerate to life with a pure follower.. someone who is too submissive.. but I wouldn't prefer to life with a vulgar swearing rude girl as well. I have my own shade of grey that I am looking for :)
