What does it mean when a guy teases a girl - a lot?

One of my best guy friends who I'm in love with (he doesn't know) and spend a lot of time with has the strangest behavior. When he is drunk he mostly stays away from me (sometimes the opposite - super confusing). Lately he has started to repeat this behavior in school - suddenly days can pass without him speaking too me... But then it's exactly the same as it used to - and when we're together he teases me mercilessly. Playfully of course - but a lot! He mocks me gently and teases me when I don't get his irony - A LOT more than he does to any other girl...

He just sends so confusing signals... He has been single since he broke up with his girlfriend this past summer but has recently turned down a hot girl who literally sat on him and tried to make out and sleep with him... I don't get him at all... Please help me.

He digs your chili. As a guy, I teased a girl I work with at work just 2 hours ago because I like her. I make fun of her and laugh at her mistakes and when she doesn't get the irony just like your friend does. For me, I will pester or ask questions simply because if I don't, she won't talk to me. I want her to talk to me so I can learn more about her, have her pay attention to me, and hear her voice (when you like someone, hearing the person's voice is heavenly). A guy doesn't need to sleep with someone or make a move to in order to like a girl. As for the "on and off" behavior, he might be conflicted concerning you. I know if the girl I liked seemed out of my league, was giving someone else the attention, or if I learned/thought about how she has a boyfriend, I would intentionally separate myself from her.

Men aren't dogs or appliances-we have the capability to answer. If you are close enough, ask him what he is thinking.

A while ago he started talking about a girl we know who he found interesting and was intriqued by but he never did anything and now he says he has 'given up' on her... Could it be a way to make me jealous or did he have a crush on her?... I have no idea... I just don't get his signals... He is always happy so even when I think he smiles at me in a special way it might just be something I'm telling myself. He's never tried anything out of friend-zone. No obvious romantic gestures or signals...

Sounds like both to me. He could be using the fact that you both know her as a way to get you to want to know what happened and why. By doing that, he has you thinking and asking about him, so you subconsciously like him more. He could be thinking that when women hear of this, they think "I can do better" or "I want to console him," which would involve you taking an interest in him. Guys have some sneaky ways too.

Ask yourself this: do you believe he only wants to be "just a friend" with you?

He probably likes you. But he is chicken. He wants to flirt with you, but he can't get the nerve so he teases you instead. Then he freaks out and worries you'll think he likes you so he ignores you. Typical guy crush behavior. Try just being nice to him. He might be avoiding you when drunk because he doesn't want to say or do anything stupid that would offend you and he also doesn't want to drunkenly tell you he likes you.

One of the signs of a crush is weird behavior period. If he acts different around you than everyone else, and he's acting weird toward you in general, then he feels SOMETHING that's making him act that way.
