I was studying in the school library by myself, when a guy I know came and sat at the table nearest mine (there were plenty of other tables where he might have sat) in the chair nearest me. He sat there reading a book for about ten minutes, and every minute or so he would make a rather loud "ahem" sound. It seemed rather forced. I know he wasn't sick because I had seen him an hour or so before and he was fine. I have also sat alone with him before, and he never cleared his throat in such a manner. Did he want to get my attention? He knows I am extremely timid and reserved. Was he hoping that I still might initiate conversation?

He left rather abruptly, too, like he thought his efforts were getting him nowhere.
