What does it really mean when a guy puts his hand on your shoulder?

lately I've been so confused since a friend I am in love with puts his hand on my shoulder for no reason& I don't know what that means when he did that. does it means he's attracted to me, is he flirting with me , is he making a move on me, I don't know I am so lost I need HELP!

It probably means that one shoulder raises higher than the other so he tries to go out of his way to straighten it out. It's kind of awkward to say, "your shoulders are uneven" in conversation. Long story short, men don't thing about every single aspect of body language like we do. They are just not wired to details. Men like big pictures and things right to the point. Women like details and well- non straight-forward thinking. It's time for you to ask him out on a date. I know it sounds scary and unorthodox but men find it super hot when chicks make the first move. It makes life so much easier for them and that way he doesn't have to guess your body language and you can date him faster! It's a win-win. Just ask him to mini-golf, festival, or a picnic. (something besides the oh so classic dinner and a movie). Or look up first date ideas online and then go for it! If he says no then he's not interested and just move on. At least you won't be wasting your time by wondering what he's thinking.

I had a guy who would always do that to me. Listen up...You have to watch him with other girls and see if he touches them the same way. Guys love to touch Girls that the like in any way wheter its around the waist or just brushing shoulders with them. Take a step back out of your skin and ask does he do the same things to other girls that he knows as well as you.

To answer the title, it means he's either being friendly, or wants more but didn't find the opportunity to express it.

I'll put my hand on most people's shoulders I'm interested in. It's not a way to flirt.

A touch of any kind is often times only sensual if it's in one place and then slided to another. Say he touched your shoulder while you guys are standing in a group just talking and he slides his hand down to your lower back, I'd consider that flirtacious.

Or another flirtacious touch would be something like, you guys are sitting and talking face to face, sitting knee to knee and he slides his hand from your forearm to your hands and then holds them for a while. That I'd also consider flirtacious.

Depends on how close the guy is to you and the situation. A close relative does it as a gesture of affection. A bit so close stranger or person just rally wants to have some kind of bodily contact with you and sees that as non threatening enough to possibly get away with. A good friend will fit comfort during tough times, but during happy times or from a possible love interest it means that he wants to be closer to you and is inching his way towards trying to get some positive signal that you're interested in him as well. Meet his pace and don't seem too anxious as young people tend to quickly lose interest in what they know they can have. Give subtle but telling hints of your interest in him as well and he'll probably open up once he feels you're both on the same page.

yeah, he probably is not sure that you like him, most guys are terrible reading those sings, so he is still trying to make moves that will help him get some kind of result, but it looks like he is just hopping and doesn't know how to make it happen

It could be that he doesn't want a relationship, some guys just want sex, it could be that he only sees you as a friend, or it could be that he really doesn't have a clue how to make it happen and is shy about making a solid move, which is very common on guys. Some guys have some fears that even if they are 99% sure you will say yes, that 1% holds then back, it can be as ridiculous as that.

lol, well he may be waiting for you to give him that yes, I can't tell, nowadays I know many guys that are actually ggod to fake no liking someone even if they do, for the most part if a guy likes a girl he will have a voice with less volume and more high in pitch when he talks to her, is the most reliable way.

You can't really tell by that action alone. Most guys put their hand on their other friend's shoulder for comfort, or as a sign that they are really doing well as friends.

Though, at least, it's clear that he really likes you a lot as a friend.

It's too subtle a sign. I would flirt a lot more overtly, and see if the hand on the shoulder becomes holding you at the waist, or intimate hugs. Only then will you know!
